so I took the marauder out for a spin this morning, about half hour into the drive something hits the car, not sure what it was but noticed it at the last second and whack, wasent sure if it hit the upper windshield or roof, so now Im heading back home and hit a nasty frost heave in the road and my coffee jumps out of the center console, lands on the passanger seat, what a mess. Now I am getting a bit upset. get the car home and cleaned up the seat, now looking for any damage to the car and did not find anything EXCEPT for a couple very small rust spots on the roof... son of a B !
well I found out about the rust problems after I bought my marauder and am curious if it affects only the 03's or both the 03's and 04's ??
also what is known about why ford went and used defective sheet metal, did quality controll notice rusty sheet metal and look the other way??

Ford didn't use "defective sheet metal". The problem was with the painting. It's well documented that '03 300A's had poor paint, and possibly poor prep.

My 04 has a bit of cancer on the roof. Sanded it down at first site and spray bombed the small section.:banana2:

oh, ok. I noticed a couple spots on the paint that are "checked" but does not appear to be any rust underneath, so I was wondering about the paint quality. the very small rust spots I noticed arent "checked" at all, just a small blister with obvious rust underneath. but thanks for the info!

when you found it did you think it was caused by a scratch or chip in the paint or the factory defect?

My 04 has roof cancer. Some shops will not want to look at it as they won't warranty the issue won't come back again.

I found a classic restoration shop who said he could sand, repair, rust proof and paint for around $500. Was booked til mid June though :(

that sounds good! back in 2005 I bought a used f250 from my shop and it had a huge rust blister on the drivers door. I sand blasted it (the rust was spread out under the paint) actually had a few pin holes due to rust. I primed it with a rust killing type of primer, built up the area w/ filler and painted it, still looks good although the paint did not adhere extremely well, ( im not a body man, the paint wrinkled a little) but no rust popping through. still looks ok for a beater!
