I have a trunk insert from a 56 Merc. It's the floating M with the Gods Head at the top. It's garbage basically, got it from a junk yard. I was thinking of carefully trimming away the unused plastic down to the M cut out and paint either the front or the back. If I can paint the back what kind of paint would I use so that the shine is on the opposite side from the side being painted? Also when painting chrome, what prep should I do the the chrome so that the paint won't come off??

Here is what I have but no where near this condition. This is all plastic. I'm really wanting to paint in from behind if the plastic is still decent and won't show imperfections. Any help would be appreciated.
