View Full Version : AM Gauge Needle???

Anybody need a pointer needle for an Auto Meter gauge?? :confused: I managed to "eject" one into Never-Never Land (In my garage) a couple of weeks ago and just found it...It is perfect and I will send it to someone if they need it!!

I was able to dislodge the other one onto the living room floor and finish the project.....It really looks good but the calibration of the dial is a little different and the OP isn't exactly right but a bunch better than the Ford OEM "sensor"!!! ;)

When you turn the key to "on", without starting the motor, your gauge should read exactly 0 (zero). If it doesn't, then the needle is in the wrong place...it may be more trouble than it's worth to disassemble the gauge again, so you can probably just use a compensation factor...i.e., if the gauge reads 5 lbs with the key on, then subtract 5 from your readings to get the true pressure...other than having this offset, it "should" track your pressure accurately...

The needle is at "0" but if you compare the OEM gauge front to the AM "after market" gauge they are off a little!! The OEM gauge front on the after market gauge reads 75 psi at 3000 RPM's hot.....with the aftermarket gauge front on the gauge it reads between 75 and 92.5 psi at 3000 RPM's.

Not much to worry over but they are different!!

Hmmm....that's interesting...

Possibly, since AutoMeter knew the factory gauge was a fake, they weren't as careful with the markings or the scale as they might be on an operational gauge...that would lead me to believe that the "aftermarket" face was more accurate...

But, as everyone here loves to tell me, I might also be full of it...!
