View Full Version : Rear Control Arm Update
Ok everyone, are you ready for this?
Y'all kicked our a s s enough with improving the pinion angle on these new control arms. So, being the nice guys we are, we are proudly offering Rear Control arms....
The Stock Length
Hey, its your car so you We've given you the right to choose!
Your driveline will not have as ideal geometry under WOT as the bars with 1/8" increased length, but hey, I dont care.
Pricing is the same, manufacture time is the same.
You must specify to me you want STOCK LENGTH, or they will be shipped with the improved dimensions.
The Watts link is coming soon and another improvement soon after....
Stay tuned.
Now if anyone manages to start a heated discussion over this...
I elect TooMany Fords and TAF to moderate this thread!

I don't think this is correct, I think these bars should be 1/8" shorter than stock...
The quasi-polytrialic nickle content in the stock arms doesn't lend well to the stock geometry, therefore, according to the Jackstonian principle of imbelicitous, the shorter arm would definately be the way to go...

I have always believed that The angle of entry is directly proportionate to the force of insertion only when the oposing force is taken into consideration and multiplied by pie on the 4th saturday of a leap year during the rainy season in tropical Maui.:rasta:

what's the manufacture tolerance of the stock ones from Ford for length?
+/- 1/8" ?

Hope you sent me the improved length!
Nah! We won't go into the other threads. Cruzetaker's leading us astray again!

...and furthermore the theoretical centerline of the control arms intersects w/the longitudinal concave vortex of the latter Trapezius rotational pull of the stratusfere, and ionusfere, which in turn causes an interference of the a arbitral sprocket of the worm gear!!!!!
(uh, translation: sooner or later I'm gonna be contacting you guys for a set too!!!!!)........... ;)
I have one unsold set of 'improved length' control arms that will be ready to ship on Monday.
First one to e-mail me wins them.

Yo, Bro..they must be mine, eh? Like...you owe me, K?
I mean...I've been driving around Hell and back on our prototypes, burning up tires and twisting and turning like there is no tomorrow, and like I am really due any righteous production stuff...Right?
Them "first run" productions arms are mine, okay? I mean, I earned them...Like, you owe me man...
I did all this front end stuff, and took all that TMF "new age means dumb ****z" crap, right? We knew this was coming, Zack, and we had that worked out, so, like, zup with this auction like stuff now, eh?
That set of control arms y'all holding belong to me, and I want what's due me for all this sales crap, k?

re: "...ideal geometry under WOT...". Zack, if the 1/8" longer control arms provide closer to ideal geometry (i.e., more downforce on the rear tires, only under WOT, as I take your comment to mean, is there a downside to the extra length in less than WOT mode, and if so, what? Also, if it isn't possible that one length can be ideal under both WOT and cruize or part throttle cornering, would adjustable control arms be the ticket. Is the reason to not have adjustable c.a.'s that they can be easy to mess up/difficult to tune, esp. for someone that is not experienced in doing that - such as my ownself, or is the reason we don't see more of those on the market the cost, or both of these reasons? Thanks, HotrodMerc
PS - How much octane does your 10 psi Vortech'd engine require to make those good numbers?

We had a long thread on this subject, but let me try and explain it as I see it...
When you accelerate hard (on launches), the pinion rotates upward. This is true with any car with a live (non-independent rear suspension) axle. With the stock length arms, when you are driving normally (cruising along) the rear u-joint and pinion angle is at its optimum alignment. But when you are blasting off, the pinion moves upward into a non-ideal angle. This angle puts extra stress on the u-joint at a time when the loading is already very high. With the revised geometry, the angle is at its optimum when you blast off and put the maximum loading on the rear u-joint. The angle is somewhat non-optimal when you are cruising along without a lot of stress on the u-joint. It doesn't matter if the arms are adjustable or not, it's a trade-off. You either have the pinion angle optimal at launch time (with maximum load) or you have it optimal at cruising time (with minimal load). Hope this helps.

pssst... I just happen to be Ryan Hurley. Guess what? I received my control arms 2.5 weeks ago.
Unless my PayPal sent you two payments, I don't think I should be getting these. Lemme know. If you want, I'll ship 'em to the rightful owner when they get here.

I had my control arms put on yesterday. It took them less than an hour including putting on a new fuel filter. Total parts & labor $73 :) The original arms look like they should be in a kids errector set
The car feels kind of like when you replace all 4 tires....much better.
Thanks Zack & Mack.
NEW dyno in Concord, NH www.Performance-dyno.com for any of you within a reasonable distance. Was told it is $50 for 3 pulls.
