While driving to the dealership this morning to get my Odometer looked at, (It reached 5666 miles and has not moved forward) I got stopped by Tumwater PD.

He said I he clocked me doing 42 in a 25 zone, but only wrote me for doing 5 over. He was real nice about it, and gave me a slip of paper with instructions to get the ticket dismissed and dropped from my record.

Ticket-$91
Driving school-$110

Decisions, decisions. (I hadn't had a ticket in 5 years. :fire: )

At any rate, He told me they were doing a special emphasis patrol on that little 1/16th mile stretch because they have been getting a lot of complaints since it reopened. I shook his hand, thanked him for the instructions, and went on my way.

Some days you’re the windshield, some days you’re the bug.

In classic shakesperian style...

"Oh! I am slain!!!"

10 or 20 years ago I would automatically do the traffic school......but anymore(I havent had a ticket in a long time also)

my Saturdays seem much more important as I get older....the time seems to fly by

But also down here the moving violations are a lot more money even for one that seems minor.....

also if you do the school it's 'cheap insurance' in case you get another one (god forbid) within the next couple of years. If you don't do the school then you'll have 2 on record...................

here is a thought, get the odometer fixed, take the bill to court and tell them that your speedo was broken and you were on the way to have it fixed!!

Ouch!!! I agree. I would take the course. The insurance is good insurance! I took advantage of "The Course" when I lived in California a couple times. Never did end up having a ticket recorded. One time I had a pair too close together and had to take the 16 hour version of "The Long Course". That really did kill the week end. The second day was a snooze. There were some pretty interesting charactors in that one though. Good Luck!

A person I know received a speeding ticket in NY for 25 MPH over the limit and the judge stated " if you didn't realize you were doing 25 over the limit you shouldn't have a license". Guilty. Hope it works for you. Plead NOT guilty and have your day in court.

Give the judge the keys, when he comes back, the court may pay you!

School- no question about it...It'll suck but better than a ticket on your record.

I've heard of a court case or two won because of troubles like speedo readings.

I'd suggest you fight, and I think more people would too IF it was a larger fine.

It's only 5mph (which is like a $20 ticket here, and there's a .00000000002% chance you'd get a ticket for that) so go to school and argue with everything they tell you, just for kicks...

Like blindspots, I asked in front of a class of 60 "Hey, this whole blindspot thing, why would you turn around to check it...if it's a blindspot you can't see what's there right? Hence the name? So you're looking for something you can't see and you're not looking in front of you, ISN'T THAT DANGEROUS???"

And then when the coroner says "ask me some questions kids" say "Uh...why did you get the job, you like guts or somethin?"

They didn't like me at all, but I passed my tests w/ flying colors:beatnik: :D

While swapping speeding ticket stories at the office, one of my co-workers offered this example.

He was driving back east from Texas and got a ticket in Arkansas and the same day got one in North Carolina. He went to traffic school in N.C. and faxed a copy of his completion certificate to Texas. No muss, no fuss ... two tickets disposed off.

My suggestion ... go get another speeding ticket and try this route.
