Will powder coat stick to stainless?

Yes it will. As long as the parts can hold an electrical charge, you can powder coat it.

IMHO..... In this case I wouldn't recommend it since you'll have to remove it occasionally.

The whole reason to go with a "bolt" instead of the recessed "square" drive is the bolt is easier to remove. There have been many cases where you have to end up using a pair of channel lock pliers to remove the OEM plug, because the 1/4" drive ratchet or extension broke off or you just can't get enough torque to twist the plug, which results in a ratty looking plug.

I'm a member of this club and let me tell you: it SUCKS! Had to use heat to get the cap off, and in the process went too hot and put a nice crack in the weld which created a coolant leak that was uncurable. Had to buy a whole new crossover pipe.

Question?..Never had to take my plug put, but last year was done at MO's during S/C install, new coolant etc. Can the factory plug just be taken out and new one installed? Like plug and play. Or is it going to lose coolant and then the adding and burping procedure need to be done?

Thanks All!

sorry if this off topic but I'd like to see a plug used that also had a lil temp guage in it... Make it easier to see water temp under the hood...
I have a small under under guage for my fuel pressure...

perhaps the top of the SS bolt can be drill straight thru & a small water/pressure tight eater temp guage installed

You'd be looking at a very very small gauge. So small I doubt you'd be able to see anything.

I guy I'm getting them from offers a drilled and tapped bolt for a temperature sending unit. I can get a price if needed.

Getting some PMs about the plugs.

The original post about getting 2 weeks after ordering was a bit optimistic, but that is what I was told by the guy that is making them.

The plugs are being made in 2 batches. The first batch arrived last Friday and they were shipped out on Monday to the following members:

SC Cheesehead
F. Wallace
V. Clarke
A. Ciccarelli
vkirkend
screamn
loud2004marquis
Blackened300A
J. Wintrerhalter
MyBlackBeasts
NavySeebee

They should be arriving today. If you are in the list above and ordered multiple plugs you are getting what you ordered.

Will post here when the second batch arrives.

Sorry for the delay.

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d12/blackened300a/null_zpsffbaa540.jpg

One question, I have it snugged all the way down and I noticed a little gap between the tube and the plug. I didn't run the car and I didn't have a chance to compare the two plugs since coolant rushed out as soon as I removed the old plug. Anyone run the car for a while with it installed yet?
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d12/blackened300a/null_zpsafaf3b9d.jpg

One other thing which Ill be paying super close attention to. The plug is now the highest point on the engine. I fear for my custom hood liner getting a rub mark. I put a piece of tape on the top of the plug and it didn't move with the hood closed but its my only concern.

Maybe the plug needs a few more threads?

Keep us informed on what your impressions are as far as hood liner wear.

See post #123.

I was trying to see if this is a widespread issue with all of them or if there may be different variations on the COT where some will have a gap and some won't.

Is a design tweak required if there is a gap?

Talked to the guy who makes these. He's been selling these exact ones for awhile on the various Mustang boards. The decision was made early on to leave a gap to prevent any build up of corrosion.

FYI to anyone who replaced their crossover pipe over the years and used Ford part number 3W3Z-8548-CA...the plug is different than what originally came on the Marauder, and will not fit! I repeat, Ford changed the pipe somewhere along the way and it is different enough that this will not work! :(

I was looking forward to having it under the hood, too.

lji372
09-10-2013, 04:46 PM

a_d_a_m
09-10-2013, 05:08 PM
Hmm... What is different? The thread size, for one.
It also looks like the cap on 3W3Z-8548-CA is a little bit more shallow, as in the O-ring isn't in the same place as the OE cap and on FBM's cap.
There is also a slight construction difference...like, it's welded differently.

I know that's probably confusing, but I don't have the Marauder here at work so I can't take pictures of it.

I messed up the OEM coolant crossover plug the last time I had to remove it. I even had anti seize on it and I still had to remove it with pliers.

If you have a buggered up plug or just want a better solution, I've found a supplier on another forum. He's agreed to make these for us.
