Hi Guys

One of the first things I stumbled across after joining this forum was the Evenflow cooling modification and how important it was to prevent cylinders 7 & 8 overheating, burning valves and the pistons picking up, so I fitted a kit to my stock Marauder.

Well after a stroll around 30 plus Marauders at Carlisle I didn't notice a single modified cooling system even on the high power supercharger enhanced cars on show, how come this kit is lauded on this forum to prevent lots nastiness yet no one seems to fit one?

Dereck

Do you know what you are looking for. Sherm and I both have cooling mods installed by his son. We both have return style fuel systems. You might not be able to identify which is the fuel line and which is the coolant line. :) I think Evenflow is out of business anyway. Others have created modifications to the base design.

I have one installed. Had it for 8 years.

Some say it works, other say it doesn't. For the price why take a chance.

Is the evenflow = to Musclemerc Cooling Mod??

Similar.

I think musclemerc's uses larger diameter fittlings and hoses to provide increased flow.

I got one of Zack's set-ups on my car, hard to see with the blower and all installed.

The rear cooling mod is cheap insurance to protect the heads/valves from the well known cylinders 7&8 overheating issue.
I have the MMR -10 fittings

I have, (gulp) DR's kit for Eaton swaps. It's actually a really nice kit with the pieces machined.

The way EvenFlow designed theirs it is easier to spot than some of the ones that came after.

Is that the one with the fittings offset-machined so it clears the Eaton lower intake?

If so, how do the fitting sizes compare to the Musclemerc kit?

I really need to get one for my car but Im on the fence as to which kit to go with.

Yes. Mine DR kit is offset for the Eaton.

I know Zack makes a kit offset for Eatons.

Travis's kit, I do not know. I would assume he would make one offset to clear the Eaton.

Justbob and I installed Zacks kit for another members Eaton swap and it worked.

Hi Merc

Do you know what you are looking for.

I know what I fitted to my car from Evenflow and after 32 years in the motortrade I think I would know the difference between a fuel line and coolant hose.

Hi 1st Merc

I guess that is why I didn't notice any cooling mods fitted, I was looking for a return pipe into the top hose as in the Evenflow design and other mods must use a different coolant return method, I didn't actually lean in under any hoods to see if there were any fittings on the back of the cylinder heads.

I want to do it at some point, definitely when I supercharge someday. But after 141,000 miles, my motor runs perfect, so it just hasn't been an issue that I am overly worried about.

Had one put on mine after I had the burnt the valves in the #7 & #8 cylinders. I had DR do mine after he put a new motor in for me, never a problem after that. Wished I had it done before I put the supercharger on in the first motor.:(:alone:

^^^^ He is exactly correct!!--Thats why I should have done it earlier--but did later after first motor blew --need I say why!!

I have one of musclemerc's installed.

Yep--My way as well!!!!!

It's not that old...
I have the DR kit too........
But I modified my COT for return, hose comes back to the front under the trilogy snout.
It enters high on the COT. I believe it made for effortless "burping"
Filled it capped it, drove it, that is all.

^^^^I agree--not old when it means so much and so many have no knowledge with cars they may have just bought or may..........good info brought back for sure......

Zack installed his kit on my MM. Works great and lasts a long time.

I have Musclemercs kit. Installed it before adding the procharger. Nice kit. Also used seiges routing method so you wouldn't see a hose running to my COT. It's capped at that location

I have one of the most heavily modified 4v cooling systems that I have seen/heard of on a street car. My cooling mod consists of just the Evenflow fitting at the top rear of the driver's head. This runs under the intake manifold and to the Modularspeed remote thermostat housing/ COT delete. Everything else is custom made with AN fittings and stainless lines. I am running a radiator with a cap and deleted the coolant reservoir.

I prefer the rear head cooling mod, straight out the back of the heads:

Of course, you need to gain access to the rear of the heads to get it installed.

I prefer to take the hot coolant from the top of the head rather than the back of the head, but that's just preference both designs work.

I would to see some real hard data that running with out one will or can cause #7,8 cylinder to overheat, supercharged or not,I didnt see FORD do anything on the 03-04 cobra or even the new shelby's,if this was a issue don't ya thing they would have gone this route?

Not for or against this mod, just would like to see hard data that the engine failed due to overheating because of not having the cooling mod.

I have my stock motor sitting in my garage with a scorched #8. Every other cylinder is perfect. I haven't double checked the injectors yet but my money is on the lack of cooling mod. Identical situation has been posted here before.

My new motor got the cooling mod put on it.

Some say it doesn't work but whether or not it works, it's cheap to do so why take the chance? It certainly won't cause any damage.

Fact is there is a DEAD End for coolant on #8 from the factory.

No one should question whether or not "it works" -- Of course it does!
Dead end coolant, vs no dead end for coolant.

Here's a bit more background, this kit in particular only does the driver's side (intended for Cobra, which comes with passenger side already done from factory).

The shelby's have a rear crossover built into the intake manifold. It's a small diameter and only links the 2 heads, but they did incorporate it into the design for a car capable of running V-max.
