I accidentally put half a tank of 87 in today and then put the other half 93 with a can of octane boost. Will I have any issue because of my mistake?

If you put in equal amounts of 87 and 93, you made 90 octane gas, so figure you've got 90 plus the booster. What are you tuned for ?

it's ruined i'll give you $8.00

it'll be fine, i just wouldn't jump on it. run it down to half and refill with premium. don't lose any sleep over it

Just be careful driving it. One can of octane does nothing.....

So basically it is now 90ish octane. Just drive like a grandma and cruise. I had to settle for 91 once and everything was perfectly fine. Just make sure it doesn't ping.

The bottle of octane booster won't do squat from what I have read besides turn your plugs orange colored.

When an octane boost maker claims to increase octane by 4-7 "points", what they really mean is 4-7 TENTHS of an octane rating. IOW if you start with 87 and add a can of their brew, you end up with 87.4 to 87.7 octane. Worthless considering the cost.

I've pondered on more than one occasion that if you mixed two different octanes equally, would it yield the average of the two. It usually comes to mind when I stop at a gas station and the difference in price per gallon between 93 and 89 octane is more than 15 cents...

I'd stop every 100 miles and top off the tank with 93 for the next 300-400 miles, just to help increase the octane level while the 87 is being used up, instead of waiting until it's near empty to fill up again. This way, you're only driving 100 miles on 90-ish octane and that number will gradually increase with each top-off...

The octane rating at the gas station is the Minimum the gas is supposed to be. While I'm sure Shell, BP etc have figured out how to come as close to that number consistently as possible it is possible the 93 octane gas you bought is really 95 octane. I wouldn't bank on it but it is possible.

I would just drive the car normally and the next time you fill make sure you are paying attention and put the 93 in it.

Here in NJ you can't pump it yourself (Oregon being the only other state) so when we fill we make sure to watch the guy is hitting the 93 button as they have been known to hit the 87 button, English not being their primary language and all. :)

It does. Most gas stations only get regular and premium, which get mixed together at the pump for the mid-grade(s).

I don't know how true it is, but I have heard for years that selling gas below the posted octane rating is one of the most prevalent forms of consumer fraud.

Could always add some turbo blue to the mix?

Put in a tank of 100 octane and drive like a wheelman.

So what if you were running on the middle grade of gas consistantly. What dammage is being done???

none unless you're driving aggressively and there is pinging/pre-detonation.
there's only 1 station with 93 octane in the OKC metro so I run 91 with my 93 tune without any issues. I've never had pinging and the car runs like a top

Cool, I have no issues, and have been using the mid grade since I bought the car in December. Guess I'll have to break down and get a tune soon.

Gonna slap a coat or two on them tomorrow. With it being hot, it should dry and I'll get some pics. The bike rack I got works with the hitch nicely. Thining about painting it all with a nickel finish...

Interesting. I have been hesitant to load the Lidio 93 octane tune when I can only buy 91 fuel. Probably worth a modest increase together with the exhaust.

with the 93 tune the car just feels more peppy and the idle is smoother. with the hot summer temps im keeping an ear open for any pinging but no issues so far.
