Wacky Wiper syndrome. The drain below the wiper motor clogs up with debris (do you keep your car outside??) and causes water to build up in the tray. The electronics for the wiper motor are on the lower side. Eventually, the moisture gets in and shorts the circuit board. "Richy04" posted a DIY thread on how to pull the motor, dry and clean the circuit board, and protect it. I'll post when I find it .....

Here the fix thread with pics >>>> http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=47864

Enlarge the drain hole and clean out the debris before reinstalling.

If this doesn't work, then you may have to replace the wiper motor.

Thanks Bluerauder sounds like a plan for the fix.

Wow! Thank God we were on our way to Haggis and Ladyhawk's house when mine went "wacky" a couple of years ago. CTRLRaven and SilverSurfer04 were there and took care of everything for me. They also drilled out the drain holes to make them larger before replacing the cowl. (Another huge benefit to being on this site is knowing people who know what to do when things go wrong.)

If I do this just to clean out the trap (and maybe get out in front of something like this for once), is there any way to put the wiper arms back on so that they sit a little lower ? I feel like they sit too high when they're turned off, especially the passenger's side.

Yes. The socket on the wiper arm and drive stud are splined and there's a key positoned to align them from the factory, but you should be able to pull out the key and align the arms a couple degrees without any problem.

Thank you, I'll give it a try

A LOT of Marauders look like this, it seems to be really common.

Tried to clean & fix the old didn't happen. I had to order a new motor. Wanted a oem part $112. plus core exchange of $35. Got it installed in just under a hour. Expecting rain all week.

Ohh! Sorry it couldn't be salvaged. :( Don't forget to drill out the weep holes. Might save you some grief in the future,

All weep holes were clean but thanks for the advi. Had corrosion from moisture on circut board of wiper motor. My guess caused by poor sealed gasket & cover design.
