View Full Version : Blow Out in Passenger Front Tire
Well, I guess the law of averages just caught up to me. :mad2:
I lost control of the car running a short errand (a measly 4 mile trip).
The only thing "good" about it, no pedestrians or other vehicles were involved.
But talk about SCARY, terrible, violent, car just bolted to the right, I hopped the sidewalk and hit a stationary highway poll. But I walked away.
They say it's repairable, will let you know at this week's end, hopefully.

I hope you and anyone with you in the car are all OK.
I hope no one else around you was involved or hurt, either.
What a thing to happen ! I hope your nerves are not too
shot, and I hope your car is not too damaged. And I hope you
have very good insurance, and they dont try to cheat you or hassle you.

Put on your spare tire and find a used tire as the spare.
Done.

OleP71Dude, thank you for your very kind words.
Right now, my nerves being shot is in fact the biggest thing. Will have to get back in the saddle again, slow but surely.
I'm supposed to get an update on how "she's doing" Wednesday afternoon.
I was conducting some research on my own post accident, and came across the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as it pertains to 2003 mercury marauders. There's some SCARY stuff out there.
Start with this link and fill out 2003 Mercury Marauder

Anyone review these?

Much of that stuff is common knowledge and has been discussed frequently here.
LCM relay problems, wacky wipers, front end alignment issues, rear tire wear on OEM BFGs, soft rear axles...
SCARY?

Seems like there is a majority of Marauder owners who are not privy to this site as most of the complaints deal with the headlights shutting off. Which isn't to say I'm making it seem like it's not a safety issue. However, one of the posts says that they couldn't find any information about the headlights going off when a simple Google search will lead right to MM.net forum!
oh and this made me LOL

as to what everyone has said, glad to hear you are ok. These cars are big and safe. As to the cause of your blow-out, what kind of tires were you running? if they were stock BFGs, did you notice any inner tire wear? Maybe not. That is a scary situation. You may not be able to see the wear on the inside until it is too late. I would suggest running an alternative tire and get Carfixer's alignment specs.

Yup.
Here's a couple I found....
SUMMARY:
NO INJURIES - ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS MY CAR HAS LOST TRACTION, RESULTING IN THE CAR BECOMING UNCONTROLLABLE.
SUMMARY:(Signed, DOOM)
REAR TIRES FOR MY MERCURY MARAUDER I HAVE 5,000 MILES ON MY CAR AND NEED TO REPLACE MY REAR TIRES FOR THE CAR FOR THE SECOND TIME...HELP!!!!! (Signed, DOOM)

You are correct sir, but I was referring to the NHTSA Steering complaints.
Such as these folks:
Summary:
No injuries - On 3 different occasions my car has lost traction, resulting in the car becoming uncontrollable. *AK
And
Summary:
While slowing down to make a turn at intersection,
car became very difficult to turn and I almost ran into
another vehicle. 2003 Mercury Marauder, built in 06/2002, has MFR. known defect in steering system due to sticking VAPS valve on steering rack. This unit
was never recalled, repaired and owners not notified of
possible safety defect with steering system.

Front tires are: Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum (235/50 ZR18) with 11,000 miles on them. Inner wear always checked during oil change, there was none thus far.

My hood struts suck and it has fallen on my head before. If it's chilly out, I can count on it coming down unexpectedly.

It's news to me too, although the last couple of months it has seemed when it was cold the steering would briefly lock up for a second. Maybe there's something to this complaint? :dunno:

That rim can be repaired. Don't toss it these wheels are forged and can easily be welded.
