View Full Version : Fan trouble..need help

Just started driving the MM again so the fan decides to take a crap . It's making a humming noise and barely trying to spin when it's supposed to kick on. It started to get hot just when I noticed it, I pulled over into a X gas station now Tint hand car wash place. Oddly enough, I was talking to MartyO on the phone. Of course, water came pouring out all over the place. Got it cooled down and got water back into it. That kept it running with an average temp for the 5 miles left to get it home.
So, my question is; does anyone have a 00-04 Stang GT fan, or the kind that DR uses hanging around ? I would be an interested buyer. LMK

Obviously no one has one. :D
Looks like a trip to your local Ford dealer is in your future.

Are you saying, that I could just switch the guts out?

Keep the housing and swap the guts like you said. Make sure you get the marauder fan motor assembly so it will be plug and play. I believe a CV or GMQ will work too.

Your car will probably run hot when ever it's 95* out or higher with that GT fan swiss cheese shroud.:mad2:

Yup..Still down. Quietly resting. Blackened300a's got a fan I can get. I think I just need the guts to fix it. You know me an electric stuff.

The best set up is OEM. But hey Engines are cheap so why not go even cheaper on the fan, fry baby fry!

I'm not sure I'm getting your sarcasm, I'm asking a legitimate question. I know the GT fans suck. That's what I got. I'm looking for a better alternative. Obviously, I would use the OEM but, it doesn't fit with the hair dryer and piping in the way. So, if you know of better options, please chime in. Otherwise, well you know.

Gt fans dont suck. There are other things you can do to run cool in this summer heat.
I have a gt fan and my temp in traffic at 95* OT dont go over 205*.

Sorry I missed the info on the hair dryer and piping.
If its a ProCharger you can flip the OEM Shroud 180*. If it's a Vortech this is better than the Mustang GT;
Flex-a-lite 480.

I just installed a Dorman fan and it flipped fine and works GREAT......$135.00 shipped from Rock Auto!!
One of our members said they will not last and if it goes out I'll get an OEM one and chalk it up to experience!!
This sucker really moves some air.....don't remember the original one blowin' so hard??:shake:
Good luck in whatever you do!!

If I remember correctly, I thought the first one that was on there went out too?
Landy, do you have a guts laying around? I'll be heading up your way tomorrow to see the parents.

You need marauder guts and gt shroud. When you buy used stuff that happens.

The fan I have has the Marauder electrics already on it. It was used on a Marauder.

Now that's sardine caliber. For some reason your pipes bend for the intake, looks like it's shallower and pointed up more than mine. That's probably how you can get away with factory upside down. I don't have that 1 1/2" between the pipe and radiator.
Nice though. ;)

I just went through close to this issue myself.
To start off with my MM is not a daily driver.
A few years ago a rock somehow hit the fan blade and broke a chip out of it.
The imbalance made a heck of a noise.
Searched for a replacement fan as everything else was fine, to no avail.
Bought an aftermarket fan assembly (shroud, motor and fan) from Rock auto.
Decided to flush the coolant at the same time.
Car decided to overheat while idling (drivethroughs etc.), so I burped it like 6-7 times over the last few years thinking that was the problem, no help.
Finally realized the aftermarket fan motor had only 2 speeds and was not cooling enough.
Got a used fan from RoyLPita (Thanks Brian!), slapped it onto the original OEM fan assembly, problem solved.
Moral: don't buy an aftermarket fan assembly Mike!

Well...Fan I got is in and working like a charm. Thanks Blackened300a. Glad to have it working again. Going to stretch the MM's legs out tomorrow when I take it to work. Wahoo :banana2:

Update: More fan trouble. Had Ron come over and did a little diagnosis, It seems that the fan was not laying flat and was a bit **** eyed. They way it was sitting crocked, when the fan was spinning and flexing it cracked the outer ring of plastic next to the fan blades. When it was in operation, it was rubbing and getting caught up and stopping. I originally thought it was an electrical issue. Seems like I now need to get just another fan only. Also, going to have to make a different bracket system to get it flat against the fan.
Does anyone know if the fan only, is on a bunch of different cars? Where's Roylpita the Ford guru?

Forget that fan. I found a ford spec that rates the cooling fan at 33A draw from Ford. That's more than twice the ebay fan. http://www.digitalallyinc.com/downloads/2010mguideCrownVictoriaPoliceI nterceptor.pdf
good news is the plastic fan part is the same between the vic and the mustang so the junk yards around here should be dirty with them!

Cool. Think I'll try to raid a local salvage yard armed with a 8mm 1/4" drive socket, a hammer, and a flat head screwdriver.:cool4:
BTW, isn't that MM article about Cobra25 / lji372's car
