This might be a dumb question, but, is it possible to cut out "MARAUDER" out of a bad back bumper and cut and plastic weld (or whatever) it into a Crown Vic REAR bumper (since the CVIC rear bumper looks the same minus "MARAUDER"). Or would it be cost prohibitive?

I don't think the CV bumpers are the same...

Correct the Marauder bumpers are distinctive to Marauders only

The crown vic bumper has two little "waves" on each side down low sort of. where the Maraduer one is a full wave/curve across the whole bottom. it's not a bad idea since they are hard to come by..might be cheaper to just use a cv bumper and have someone airbrush marauder on it

Might be cost/time effective to look for a totalled MM (ebay, Craigslist etc) and make an offer on the bumper cover, in fact if you do a search for 03 Mercury Marauder you will find front and rear covers. Just a suggestion, good luck!

I have been looking all over the place for some covers at a good price. I know they have some covers on eBay from some refinishers. Fronts for like $600+. I haven't seen rears on there lately. I am just hoping to find something a little less expensive. There is a smashed Marauder in Clearwater. But, both bumpers are toast. The Marauder part is ok. That is what got me thinkin.... Plus, I found a local guy with a real nice C-Vic rear bumper, black, in great shape for $150.

That's not bad, keep in mind if you cut out the 'Marauder' and want to cut the same hole in a CV cover it's a lot of work, have you ever fused urethane flexible plastic? It can be done, I've done some repairs in the past. I'll shake some trees and see if I can dig one up, I've been in car restoration since high school (many yrs ago) and I know a few guys that know a few guys and if one is out there I'll PM you and let you know how to obtain it, nice MM btw

Thanks! Yours, too! It's cars like yours that keep me driving to find these extra parts! No, I have not messed with the plastic welding. I wasn't sure how much work was involved. I would most likely ask a friend of mine (who is a bodyman) to see how much $$. But, I didn't want to waste his time without even knowing if it has been done or if it is even worth it. I figured someone on here might have tried it. But, it sounds like my C-Vic bumper cover theory is wrong anyway....:shake:

It can be done, Id take it on, shouldn't be much in materials but labor could hurt your wallet, you can get the materials at Auto zone/Advance auto and if you can cut a straight line and have auto know how you shouldn't have any probs, Id get a MM cover and a CV cover that way if something gets messed up you will still have your original.
Looking at your mods Im sure you can save a cpl bucks and take it on and it come out sweet, also after you will know how to work with urethane, which for side $ you can fix bumper covers and make a crap load of $

Anyone tried the aftermarket rear bumper cover that CarID was selling? How is the fit and finish? I've bought from CarID before but it was only small stuff like license plate covers, etc. Curious as to the aftermarket fit and finish.

Yeah, I was wondering the same. A lot of people said they were purchasing CarId stuff, but never posted up the results....

I had a body shop try to fix a small hole in my Marauder rear cover when a truck punctured it once in a parking lot hit n run. The end result wasn't god awful but you could see a wave where they worked on it. Several attempts at redoing it still wasn't right. I made the ins. co buy me a new oe rear cover. If you try to glue 2 different used bumper covers together you can definitely make a repair that will be structurally fine but I guarantee it will not look right. These bumper covers are wavy and floppy enough as it is brand new.

I need both front and rear repaired or replaced.. I opened a claim with the ins. Co.

Don't want them to total my car.. just doing the research before I talk to the adjuster.
Are these aftermarket one any good?

I've heard the CarId ones don't actually have the "Marauder" imprint. Best to call for confirmation.

I've heard the front can be had aftermarket and they can be made to work. But the rear is apparently the holy grail.

I've heard that most of the front repo's are not that bad as long as it was shipped good and not wrapped all warped to a skid..I have never heard of an aftermarket rear cover yet that someone posted about here/

CarId sales rep told me that the "Marauder" imprint is embossed in the bumper cover....both of the mfg, "Replace" and "Sherman" brands are different in price but of the same quality, I was told....and both are out of stock with no time frame on availability.....
