Have a C6 in a 68 Monterey. low gear set extra clutches in high drum, valve body work, 2400 stall. It is locking up in manual low gear and second. In drive it moves, but not well, reverse seems fine. Took out and tore down, but can find nothing wrong inside!? I thought a gear set came apart, but everything looks great.
Thoughts? Valve body maybe?

I can't help you specifically but I recently had a C6 built for my 65 Marauder by Trans Plus in Cartersville, GA. Ask for Mark. He does alot of work for MO's Speed Shop in Dallas. Good guy to work with.

Got it fixed! Reverse-forward clutches and steels were wasted. Bought a kit years ago to run 5 clutches in a standard drum. Had what looks like just a thick steel for the plate against the snap ring. Was not thick enough, everything was concaved and messed up! Surprised it ran as well as it did for as long as it did.

I've done a lot of stuff on a variety of cars, but never have taken an auto trans apart...yet. I had my C6 in my 68 LTD done by a shop. Hopefully one day I'll man-up.

Did you start with a 428 or 390?? 12's is impressive. I'd be lucky to get a low 15 with my 2.47 rear.

Was a 390. Now a 447, .040 over 4.250 stroke. Edelbrock heads and intake, demon 850, solid roller cam. Also has a 3.89 gear, and factory 31 spline axles from a lincoln. Is very fun car! Was my daily driver untill gas prices went crazy years back. Now the black Marauder is the DD.
