View Full Version : Fluid Flush Required After Rebuild?

I had my transmission rebuilt a couple of months ago. Should I do a transmission fluid change due to the new transmission breaking in or just leave the Mercon V fluid they put in during the rebuild?

I've read as far as rear gear upgrade, the fluid should be changed shortly afterwards. Does this apply to the tranny also?

Thanks.

It depends on how thorough the rebuilder was in cleaning everything, especially the cooler. If it was mine I'd change it, but I'm A/R.

As for the filter, the majority of wear particles get generated during the first 10-15,000 miles from new. This is what the filter is designed to catch. After that first time, changing the filter is not necessary for normal maintenance. I would consider a rebuilt unit to be the same as new in this regard, but in your case, it's too soon.

Put a drain plug on the pan and change out 5 quarts every 2 or 3 oil changes.

As I recall ford did the work on your car pete right ? They may have flushed and replaced the fluid to make sure that any metal shavings or anything that could harm the rebuild was out . Could call them in ask could not hurt .

Just my 2 cents

I would change the filter in about 8-10000 miles then you can also see what is in the pan. Should be clean as in no clutch material and very little on magnet if there is=back to builder
