I drive mostly highway miles and have MM 03'for compnay car (yeah they pay for it!) Want to keep good fuel mileage yet want better low end pickup. What will the RPM be at 70MPH if I go with 4:10?

I also heard that putting smaller (same as front) tires on rear will take rear ratio up to 3:73. Anybody know what it would be if I put both smaller tires on and 4;10 gear?

Mine with 4.10s is right about 2100 at 70 MPH

Your highway milage will decrease to about 22.5 mpg. The RPM'S increase about 250.

It's all good...do it!:P

BTW: Still not offering information I see??

If it is a company car you may want to reconsider 4:10's. If something happens (repairs of any kind) and the warranty is denied because of the 4:10 modification, your company will look to you to pay expenses!! Wait 'til the lease expires and the company offers you the buy out on the car (buy it!!!!) and then change to all the available mods. Protect thyself (unless you are the owner's son).

The only warranties to be denied are failures directly related to the gears. That would be the gears....and...well, you tell me?

4:10 gear owner. Can the gears be ghange without the computer chip and if so can the dealer recalibrate the speedometer.

No. And No.

The dealer does not have the software to adjust the program in the EEC for a gear change. This is typically done with an aftermarket chip, or handheld tuner.

Mine's stock, but I drove one with the 4.10s, and I couldn't tell much difference cruising. I think there's plenty of room there - I'd go for the 4:30s if I did it.

What CRUZTAKER said ^^^

I went on a round trip from KC to Omaha yesterday and went 310 mi with a 1/4 tank left, 14 gallons to fill (22 mpg). This was with a couple dances around 100 mph when I had clear highway and about 30 miles of city driving.

I'm running 2500 RPM at 72 MPH on the dot. IMHO, the 4.10's are actually better on the highway because you are closer to the engine's sweet spot, so you only have to tip into it to pass with manners.

I'm using DR's 9100 SCT, non-corrected (?), no problems with shifting or knocking. You'll be able to reload your stock program for dealer visits if you need to.

also......you will NOT get ANY improvement in acceleration with these cars w/merely a gear change alone. Even your ET's at the track would be EXACTLY the same w/the 4.10 gears as they were w/the 3.55's unless you get a chip.

I used 4.10 gears for my first gear change on my MM. To my knowledge I'm the only one on this board who put the 4.10's in a Marauder BEFORE performing a chip installation or anything else, and there was absolutely NO change in my ET's until I chipped it, and then I reduced the ET by .50 sec in the quartermile.

I think the chip is needed to re-set the computer, otherwise the computer will not allow the car to take advantage of the new ratio.
