View Full Version : Which Supercharger

Looking into a Supercharger, saw that Trilogy no longer makes them for the Maruader (probably old news, but I just became an owner last year...fyi)
Anyway - what is the best one that you can still get?

The only known "kit" is a vortech (centrifugal tyle) from a place (DR) in Florida. There are mixed reviews regarding timeliness of delivery and customer service. Mine is from the same, but I purchased it from a member who never installed it. The other one mentioned is the eaton swap, where you have to hunt down and purchase the required parts. There is no "off the shelf" superchargers out there for this car. Other option is to buy one already supercharged, i thik there is still a trilogy for sale in IA..DBP too.

If you have a decent amount of mechanical knowledge, do a eaton swap. I was going to try to get a vortech kit from reinhart and he was extremely flaky to me. Just look at some of the reviews about him on Google.

After my experience with DR, I can't in good conscience recommend DR's kit.

Stock block- Eaton swap or Vortech. I ran the Vortech fr DR on my stock block and really liked it. Now it belongs to PonyUp. I wanted a kick in the pants out of the hole so I went and changed my motor then Whippled it! She's a mean girl! As Jeff describes her at Mo's, she's VIOLENT!
Good luck with your endeavor!

Hard to beat an Eaton swap for the power vs cost.
I spent about $4,500 for parts and a dyno tune.

Is an Eaton swap CARB-able? (California Air Resources Board registration number--required to pass biennial, visual engine bay smog inspections in California) Do any of the previous "kits" have CARB numbers? I live in California. I found a CARB-legal parts list exemption database on a Toyota Supra forum--are there such lists for Ford after-market products?

Thanks! At least there is an option in California. Do you mean "Vortech," as in Dennis Reinhart's kit? Why the bad rap on Dennis lately (I haven't been around here for a while)?

AFAIK, Reinhart sells the only Vortech kit specifically for the Marauder.
I've personally had any issues with Dennis on anything, but there are quite a few members that have had some pretty bad dealings with him, so decide for yourself.

What's the cost and time difference between installing the Eaton VS the Whipple? I would imagine the Whipple puts down better #'s....:burnout:

Sorry to burst your bubble.
There is no CARB approved supercharger kit for the Marauder. :(
Even if you take one off of a Mustang Cobra with the same 4.6 Liter engine as the MM, and install it on a MM, the California CARB will not approve it. It needs to have been submitted on that particular model (MM) with a hefty fee paid to the state of California to get a CARB number. :(
Sorry, but us California MM owners are SOL when it comes to getting a street legal supercharger for the MM. :mad2::(:( :mad2:

Unless you're running a built motor, no benefit going with the Whipple.
Also, the only cost difference is going to be in the cost of the blower head; everything else required for the Eaton (i.e. L.I.M., I/C, H.E., etc.) is required for the Whipple.
Used M112 in good shape: $350 - $450
New Whipple: $3,920 - $8,820
You do the math...

I called Vortech today. They told me that although they have a supercharger that should work extremely well on the MM and Mustang, they did not submit it for testing to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) on a MM along with the required $10,000 testing fee to get it CARB approved on the MM
Just not as many MM's in the market place as Mustangs for aftermarket sales. :mad2:
Therefore they feel it will not be considered CARB approved and is not legal to put on a MM in California. :bigcry::bigcry::bigcry:

The CARB number for Vortech is D-213-27. The Marauder is listed. Vortech has a number of superchargers so make sure to get the one with that CARB EO number on it.

I was told they no longer offer that kit, right now they offer a direct replacement for the Terminator and the 2 valve 4.6.
Looks like if you can get the manifolds from a '03-'04 Cobra you can bolt up the KB and go from there.

To take advantage of a KB on a DD you should have a built motor.

To take advantage of a KB on a DD you should have a built motor.
As long as you keep the boost at proper levels the stock motor is fine, the KB will definitely give you more room to grow if you choose to get crazy.
The KB is also available in different sizes, another twin screw option is the Whipple.

Do what ever you want but we have seen what happens when you exceed 450RWHP on the OEM that is a DD.
