emblem help

Got this trunk emblem from the yard aloooooooooong time ago. The plastic has slight cracks but not all the way thru. Is there a way to sand the plastic down past the cracks without losing the clarity??? Really hate to toss it...

You may be able to , but say bye bye to the finish and paint on the emblem.

I'm hoping to get the plastic down as close to it as possible and then maybe buffing will do it's magic...:dunno:
