View Full Version : How Many Miles is a MM Good For?

Now that our MM's have become middle aged or in some cases, senior citizens, I still see MM's running and for sale with over 100,000 miles.

Many of these senior citizens of the auto industry have superchargers and are still going at over 150,000 miles.

If one takes reasonable care of a MM, how long is it reliable for?

I only have 38,000 miles on mine. I am the original owner. Frequent oil changes using high quality synthetic. Still an extremely reliable and fun to drive car.:bows:

The late Paul Casey had well over 200K on his and a good portion of those were in 1/4 mile increments.

I just turned 83K on mine, the last 30,000 S/C'd and it runs like a Swiss watch.

With proper maintenance, 300K shouldn't be a problem.

It's just money and maintenance. The only thing that kills a car is a lack of cash and the will to see it through. If you are willing to rebuild the engine every 200K, rebuild the tranny as necessary, bearings, shocks, bushings...Being reliable indefinitely is only a question of money and a good mechanic to spend it on.

As soon as the last part unique to the Marauder fails, that is, you can no longer find one on Ebay or at the dealer, you may then say the car is no longer repairable. It gets shelved until you find one from a part-out or have something fabricated. Crossover tubes have sold out but there are replacement options. Heads could dry up, but there are enought 4v variants out there to last a while. Floormats, though...

Look at town cars - on Ebay they sell with 300K+ miles for more than a few grand. I would imagine our cars are just as viable, even if loaded with propietary parts.

I've ridden in Crown Vic taxis that were over 375,000 miles and still running strong on the original engine (so said the guy driving). The car was tight and comfortable too. I'd expect the same with an MM that was regularly and properly maintained without too much abuse. ;) The cab driver says that he averaged about 3,000 miles PER WEEK and was logging 12-14 hours PER DAY. Unbelievable !!! He must not even stop for red lights.

At Carlisle in 2010, Rachel Veitch had her 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente on display inside one of the "Invitational" buildings. She bought it new in 1964. Last I heard she had more than 573,000 miles on it and it looked like it came off the showroom floor earlier that day. All original according to her and the battery came with a "Lifetime Warranty", she said it has been replaced under warranty lots of times. Hey, lifetime is lifetime ... Car and Owner.

Here's a video .... she is asking $44K bet she could ask for more.

When I saw his car in person in May, I think it had something like 267k on the clock!

Mary's car has over 170,000 on it now and uses about a half-quart of oil in 5,000 miles.

I'm at 107k now. Runs awesome. It doesn't even have the oil puff at starting like my 03 MM did. Only problem it has is if it sits for a week or two when I started it the chain tensioners are bled down and rattle for about 1-3 seconds.

Keep the rust at bay and fix it when it breaks. It will last indefinitely.....

I've seen two panther platform cars with over 1,000,000 miles, both of which had gone through 3-4 engines and 3-4 transmissions, each. no reason a marauder cant go just as far, but when some things break, their a little harder to find than your average ex-cop car.

one car was a 1,1XX,XXX mi 2000 crown Victoria P71, and the other was a 2004 P7 with 1,3XX,XXX miles.
