Unfortunately, despite the high turnout, not one of the MMs or cars in our group took home an individual award. The crowd seemed to have a taste for Chevys and cars from the '50s and '60s. Our location at the far end of the lot probably didn't help either since many attendees didn't get down our way in the heat.

Yep it sure was hot but we had a great time! This show grew from last year's numbers when I had attended. There were over 200 cars from several states and many clubs.

Many thanks to all that showed today! As Charlie said, We won the Club Participation Award!!

If we had a longest distance award, that would go to Dean!

:banana2:

I'll do a close up pic tomorrow after I get the camera out of the car. Someone had a great suggestion so we all can enjoy the award to copy the pic into our signatures. Feel free to use any of them.

Yep it sure was hot but we had a great time!

This ^^^^^ is an understatement. HOT just kept getting hotter. It was a bright and beautiful day but we were in the 90* plus all day -- 7 hours from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. A passing cloud was usually a relief just for the brief amount of shade. Thankfully, the SPF 70 did the trick for me. I am sure that there were some "Crispy Critters" among the crowd. Of course, the heat didn't dampen the spirits of the MM.Net crowd on hand. :2thumbs:

The "newest" car to win a Top 40 was a 2004 Mustang. I believe the heat had a lot to do with it, people did not want to walk all the way down to see the modern muscle. But, there where a lot of very nice cars there.

If we do the show again next year, we definitely need to be more up by the registration trailer backed up to the curb by the road. Those people had a lot of tree shade for most of the day.

Chris and I was discussing that last night.

Ok, who is on the bandwagon for next year. I can try setting up a block of rooms at a local hotel if there are enough out-of-towners.

Eric and I had planned on coming this year but had to bow out. I'd really like to make it next time. The Hampton in Frederick or the one in Maughansville are both nice. We like to stay there. Don't know if they are convenient for most people though. Maybe they would give you a deal?

I am jumping on the bandwagon, it was a good show and a great weekend, as for a hotel I recommened the the Comfort Inn Red Horse, it is close to your house and only a couple miles though town to the stadium. Rates are good and you get a meal in the morning.

I do not recommend the motel 6, although its big for a motel 6, theres a reason why the rooms are only $50.00 a night (it was the only place with a room )

The Hampton Inn on Buckeystown Pike just off I-270 south of Frederick might be worth a shot. It is located 2.4 miles from the stadium where the car show was held and is only about 2.0 miles from the lower lot where we rallied. Rooms are now showing at $102.00.

Pretty direct route = Buckeystown Road (1.5 miles) to Urbana Pike (1/2 mile) to New Design Road (1/4 mile).

Hampton Inn Frederick

But like this time .... I'll probably just drive up from home. It is only a little over an hour for me.

Next year we all should try to get there when they open (was it 9:00?) at least by 9:30 so we can get first choice of where we want to park.

Anyway, we will pencil it in on our 2014 calendar;)

Registration started at 9:00 AM. I bet that there were people already parked beginning at 8:00 AM and the lot was already pretty full BEFORE 9:00 AM. By 10:00 AM when we arrived, they were already above the expected numbers and were running out of slots.

Most of the winning numbers were below registration number 100. 90 percent were Chevys and most of them travel to the same car shows. Its hard to win a car show in the Fredrick area if you are not below 1983 and older. :argue: With the number we have let's create our own car show and not tag along.

Sounds like the car show that Charlie (Defyant), CheeseheadBob and I attended years ago in Hamilton.
2 sick Marauders and the 427 Cobra and we didn't win a single trophy....
Bunch of local Chevy guys handing out trophies to each other.
We knew it was rigged when a POS, primered & bent V8 Vega won a trophy.

Sorry that I couldn't make it folks!
Looks like an awesome MM turnout.
Will plan on attending next year....or our own car show as Mark suggested.

I think they were kinda impressed when we showed up as a group. :D

This I don't doubt. One year some of us Lincoln owners got together and did an Easter Parade, then we went and "crashed" a cougar show at the Water Tower. We had a '53 Capri, 67 Conti Conv, '65 Conti conv, '69 Mark III, 71 MarkIII(mine) and a 79 Mark V(mine). The whole show stopped when we pulled in and went to park. I can only imagine when a group of Marauders pull in...must have been an awesome site to see...

This was a great show worth going to again and benefits our veterans.

Its awesome seeing the response to do this next year! After seeing our numbers, I think the club hosting will be more responsive next year to how many cars I say we will have. We know these guys and I think we can work out a better parking arrangement. Those empty spaces at the beginning of the row were probably for us, but it wasn't enough room for all of us. So pencil it in and we will let everyone know when it is schedule.

Why must you be so negitive? There were a lot of nice cars there, it was 'HOT' and we were at the far end of the show. Same reason the '69 Judge did not win a trophy or that blue Ford close to us. We even tried to stuff the ballot box, at least most of us did, don't you think the other car clubs were too.

Chris and I will keep everyone informed when the show is next year and I will look into a block of rooms at a nice hotel if enough interest.

P.S.

Why do you think my comment was negative. I had a great time meeting old and new members. The car show just happened to be a forum for a Marauder meet. I think it's a good idea to have a Marauder car show. The other club "The Black Knights" are having a show soon. It's a fact that the classic cars show up in large number in the fredrick area. On another note I paid for hamburgs for the 2 elderly vets manning the tables at one of the veterans (VFW) tables. :D Pam and I really enjoyed the day and we contributed to the numbers which lead to the collective win.

There were a lot of nice cars there.....

This ^^^^^ is a fact. I took well over 100 pics at the event. LOTS of very nice classics were represented in all their glory. We each got to vote for 15 cars, 5 Trucks, 5 Rat Rods and 5 Motorcycles. If you had started at the concession end of the lot (like most people did), you would have run out of votes long before you ran out of cars to look at. It is very hard for an '03-'04 MM to compete with a pristine '55 Corvette or a '56 Nomad or a '32 Ford coupe or a '66 Barracuda or just some of the 60s Muscle with their standout colors.

I too had a great time at the all day event. Door to door, it was a 14 hour day for me. Thanks to all those who brought the pop-up tents. Without those available, finding a place in the shade for a brief period of relief was kinda difficult.

Thanks also to Gordon and Chris .... I needed that Cool Down period badly. ;)

One car club is never enough for any car show. The Northern Virginia Mustang Club (NVMC) would be a good candidate combining membership and increasing turnout. Some of our members have mustangs and I think we could add 20+ cars to our lineup. Giving us a starting point of 35 without even advertising. I know of a couple mobile D.J.s that I can contact. I could also contact JLT an old sponsor on the site and a few other venders. As an example look what one person did in California http://www.veterancarshow.com/ Not to discourage anyone from attending next years Golden Gears car show but rather encouraging Marauder Club members to create and support there own club car show. I personally would donate time and money to organize a one day event in the Washington Metro Area.

And many thanks to you guys for all of the food. Wish you could have stayed for the after show party. Got home to a cooler full of food! Guess we could have pulled that out while sitting around under the tents.

Merc, if you want to organize a show with NVMC that's a great idea! They seemed like good peeps years ago when we were at Mason Dixon. BTW, JLT is still a supporting vendor. ;)
