My grill could use a good sand and repaint. Bugs and rock chips got the best of it.

Can anyone list the sanding steps with grit and spray to use?

Or is it cheaper to use a shop??

Thanks

Unless you have experience do it...... which I doubt since you are asking questions, get a professional shop to do it. You'll save and be happier in the long run.

Called a shop that paints a lot of the local hot rods (Great quality) and was quoted $150 for grill alone and $300 for bumper AND grill. Sounds good to me

...is that the norm or the "sounds about right" price?

Had some minor damage on my front bumper two or three years back, repair and repaint was $500, so $300 doesn't sound too bad.

It all depends on the shops labor rate which is different in different parts of the country.

Do they do good work?
Do YOU think the price is fair?

If so, get it done there.

The shop with the high price may not have wanted to deal with it.

Ok good. No damage to mine just typical clear coat chips from bugs and rocks.

The high price shop does mostly custom painting and high end cars (lambod, benz, Porsche etc...)

I think the other shop is fair and I've seen their work many times.

If you want to take your old one off and paint it use a maroon scuff pad from your local paint store or 400 grit sand paper and water get it nice and smooth it should be full no shiny spots if done correctly then soap and water to clean it up let air dry paint likely then two or three coats of clear coat

I paid $300 for a repaint of the front bumper cover, so price sounds right. Make sure that they know to add the flex agent to the paint for the bumper cover, otherwise, the paint will crack.

Reproduction Marauder grills are available for less than $100. Amazon and other sites have these listed.

Ok. How do the repro grills fit? Are they already painted black?

The one I bought was black plastic. Fit is ok - no major issues.

Yes, just go to your local Ford dealer.

Aftermarket ones suck. I've had a couple, so I know. Plus they don't come with a badge. OEM ones do.

I have my badge ...my local ford dealer acts as if they don't know what a marauder is.

Find a new parts rep at the local Ford dealer.

When I went aftermarket, I used the Godshead emblem which I was not wild about. My OEM badge was worn out, so I was glad to get a new grille with a new badge.

The fit and finish of the aftermarket ones are horrible. You get what you pay for.
