Mary and other owners.

Can you please help me to understand something? Political and religious threads are not allowed on the site. YOUR RULES!

But yet they pop up ALL THE TIME

Members blatantly break the rules by doing this! Yet most of the time their threads don't even get NUKED! They just get LOCKED! so you can still go back and read them.

I guess those threads don't bother or offend YOU!

And it doesn't matter if they offend SEVERAL MEMBERS here!

I'm tired of all the Obama bashing, gun control, and overthrow the government threads!!! :mad2:

So are several other members here!!!!!!!

What do you do about those threads??? Because it doesn't offend YOU it doesn't matter and these threads get to live long healthy lives before being CLOSED But not NUKED!

How does that make any sense???

Mary you found something offensive! FINE!!!

What about the crap that us members find offensive THAT BREAK THE SITE RULES and not a God damn thing gets done about it!?

Several members are FED UP! but I guess it doesn't matter because YOU don't find it offensive!? WTF???

Let me be clear! Mary, Bob, Dan, Julie, and Mike! I don't have a problem with any of you! And you know that! Mary the next time I see you I'll pick you up off he ground and give you a big hug like I ways do.

But this **** ain't right!!!

I started a thread "BOOST GETS YOU LAID" for a friend! His wife loved it! Ms. Denmark liked it and didn't find it offensive either. What site rule did I break??? That's what I would like to know?

How is this FAIR?

Jake ask many questions above that I've been curious about myself. I usually lay low and don't say a word but I have to say I'd be interested to know some of the answers.

I've enjoyed the heck out of the last 5 years on this site. My wife gives me a hard time because if I'm not out here on the computer I'm usually checking it through my phone. But lately it seems as if things have changed and the atmosphere is different. IDK, maybe I'm burn out. But I do think others have questioned what is being mentioned above as well.

Don't forget to add the bashing of others whom may not type as punctual as others, the roasting of someone's OWN taste of THEIR VEHICLE. This place should be a CAR FOURM not the chat room it's been. Most members here will help each other talk about another member before they offer to help. This site is VERY informative ...VERY. But there needs to be more order and more togetherness around here.

I have to agree...by the way, the offending post was directed at ME. I knew it, I was told about, I LOVED IT! I do understand how it could be found offensive. That being said the rules need to be applied evenly.

I have stayed away from many, and I mean many forums due to high school antics...I love this site and its members, I have met wonderful friends here in the last year, I don not wish to have the scattered all over due to one or two people that can't get along...

Let's fix this now before we have another split and end up with a couple of little sites that can't make it due to cost or lack of involvement. Look at the MCM site, good site, decent member count, dead topics, dead involvement...we don't want that do we?

Mary is right, this fighting is childish. We love the car, we love each other, lets find a way to make it work for everyone...how about an adult only section? That area we can run our mouths any way we want and if you don't have permission you can't go in there?

I'm an offender of the political threads and the gun threads..... That said, I have to agree with Doom here. Personally I think many of us are just a lil to high strung.... I come here to let off steam and BS without worries about being PC. None of us are perfect. None of us should make it their mission to impose their version of "perfect", outside of rules developed and consistently enforced by the ownership.

Thanks for your consideration of this viewpoint. :)

On my opinion Doom was a little light.

I'm sick and tired of the politics on this forum. I've heard from multiple owners, that I should just ignore it. Well the Anti Democrat sentiment and anti Obama crap on this site is offensive, and yet you continue to do nothing about it.

This has been brought publicly multiple times, you address it and then business as usual.

So let me give you some of your same advice, if boost gets you laid is offensive to you, don't look at it. I've seen worse on mudflaps

There have been numerous gun threads started, something that also doesn't belong here, but as the car is ten years old, you just have to accept there will be topics like that.

There is a contingent, or group rather out there that has acted as the moral majority, besides the owners and their hypocrisy is ridiculous.

Lastly, and where I was truly ashamed to be a member of this site is what happened over the 4th.

A supporting member posted in the lounge (off topic non marauder) about how he struggled with his family over the fourth.

He was rudely met with a dear Abbey letter saying we should just discuss cars and other members agreed and supported it. These same members post on non marauder topics all the time and they called out another member for doing the same

Pretty much the definition of hypocrisy.

What is sickening is that innuendo, and jokes have been called out, but these same members don't say squat about the politics. The things they say about our government and our President is sickening, but as long as your a conservative and agree with what's being said, I guess that's okay.

So Mary you can send the angry bunny after me, until the politics are removed from this site I won't change my signature.

I'm not afraid of a vacation as I will be logged out anyway.

Thank you

Doom, and everyone else:

You have to understand that we owners have lives outside this board and CANNOT moderate every single post as it comes through 24/7. No one could.

We also TRY to be fair and not delete posts capriciously and without some basis, but even that line is a moving target.

If someone doesn't like a post, there's a "report post" button. If you don't like a religious post, or a gun-control post, or an Obama-bashing post, use the damn button.

If you want us to become the uber-strict parents we try not to be, we can do that, too. From now on we'll simply delete any post with the words "Obama", "gun", "control", "government", "Sex", "Drugs", or "Rock and Roll". We have tried to allow people to vent about their own personal gripes and injustices, but since this apparently offends so many, we'll just delete everything that doesn't directly relate to the car. Will that make everyone happy?

Look: I know you all have heard variations on this theme before, so no one can say "I didn't know". Use the common sense you were born with and ask yourself: "would I show this to my mother, or my rabbi?" If the answer is no, THEN DON'T POST IT.

I thought this site was an adult car forum. The equivilant of sitting in the garage drooling over some's car and talking smack. And everything that goes along with that. I also get the pg side of things and the need for rules. I like Chris's idear of an PG-13 or NC-17 area. Seems like that would appease most. I'll admit though, when I read I don't see much anger or slandering. But I am a newbie here and don't know the people as well as the veterains. The car has brought us to this point and this site, but the comraderie is what makes us leave the icecream on the counter in order to log in and see what we missed. And I'm not mentioning Kyle's name...:P:D:D:D:D:D
Your not going to please everyone all the time, but at least keep open the possiblity that if alot to most of the poeple are saying something wasn't right, take another look at it...As for being offended, I remember a time when if you got offended you just looked the other way and ignored what offended you. Now it seems that, in society, it's ok to stop something if one person is offended but the other 99 poeple involved are not. My :twocents:...not trying to argue, just express...

Politics shouldn't be discussed here PERIOD. We all have our own views on it and its IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM related to cars so why allow it to be posted?!

Its not about policing every post but damn if a member violated NUKE THEM. Clearly many members gather at events no matter what president, gun control law they like or dislike because they come together. It just shouldn't be posted here. Want to vent about what you don't like then take a ride in your car, scream, yell, beat up the steering wheel etc...

If this is a place for MARAUDER AND OTHER CAR OWNERS TO COME TOGETHER then why post something to piss someone else off? That's like going to Maraudeville, gathering everyone in a room and saying something to offend everyone.

I've said over the years I have been here multiple times, there needs to be REAL moderators on this site and let the owners just be owners/Admins who do stuff whenever they are on.

Having 1-2 selected members to be moderators (think Asst Mgr/3rd Key) for each main forum section while having a few super moderators (Manager) to to handle the same tasks and over see the regular moderators it would take some much stress off you and the other owners.

I have been either a moderator or super mod on almost every forum I have been on besides this one and a few others. I have personally seen that it really helps the forum run more efficient when the owner/s or admin have trusted and respected members of the forum help run it and enforce the site policies & rules.

Well we already know an apology won't be coming. An admission of the problems we are talking about would be a good start.
I also think there has been a complete overreaction on the picture in question, so I think admitting someone had a bad day when they nuked it would also be a good start.
I've been bringing the politics problem up for over a year, and each time it's the same

They requote the rules, nuke the next political thing they see, then it goes on as it always does

So either we are allowed to bring the fun, in a pg format (I've seen much worse than that picture in pg movies) to offset the crap that they refuse to police in any manner, or we are not, in which case, at least speaking for myself, I will do so elsewhere from this site

Brad, do you seriously think anyone has the time to go back over the thousands of threads on this site just to delete the political ones?

A few people are up in arms because they're offended that this thread was deleted but that one wasn't. Sorry, we'll try to do better in future. I agree that emotions are running high...I think we all need to take a step back and evaluate.

Well if it was ENFORCED then there wouldn't be "thousands"
We all know the street laws are ENFORCED so you wouldn't speed past a cop would you (some might)

Should be the same around here. Make the offenders understand that there is a guide to follow. Push out the BS and bring in the real car talk.
Can't talk about street racing because of the loss of a member so out of respect it's not tolerated. So out of respect for others why not keep the other crap out too? Wana talk politics then find a politics forum there are people there to talk you till you croak.

There is definitely a hierarchy on this site that from time to time announces their presence with authority on various dramatic threads and slights posted in legitimate threads aimed at a few individuals going back to a conflict a year and half ago. Some of these people are working behind the scenes saying things in pm's to other members. I have had the unfortunate experience of reading one of these that clearly showed the intention.

I'm speaking in code here, but Bob, if you talk to Mike you'll know exactly what I'm talking about, and I prefer to not go anymore public with it than I have.

Hopefully things will get better, however after today I will be logged off. I'll check in from time to time and if it looks like we are back to enjoying each others lives, experiences, and cars, then I will be back and partake.

But again, I go back to Kyles thread, that was despicable and I'm disappointed there aren't more voices to call someone out on that BS.

Maybe I just held this community in a higher regard, maybe not as many people read it as I thought, but it was extremely disappointing

Personally I was shocked the skittles and sprite thread stayed up till now. Still shocked this thread is alive and well

http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=87906&highlight=Strip

As well as the the Obama bashing (and I can't stand the current administration).
I had my vote I lost and went on with my life.

There was a firearm for sale ad a while back that was closed but still at the top of the page with the sellers contact info:confused:

I start a thread to discuss what going on and I'm pot stirring:confused: it's not nuked but closed to what make me look like o pot stirring fool? I thought an open discussion so everyone could air their issues was a good idea. Like the Carlisle thread I posted it in the members only forum and now here we are. Would ya look at that!

Like the Carlisle thread I hope there are no hard feelings on either side of the fence when all is said and done. I know it is an improbability, I just hope we can find some common ground to go forward.

I'm not taking sides, all I ask is to make a rule and stick with it across the board. I know you tell everyone to use their judgement, thats the problem. For example when i am comfy around others i cuss like a sailer without even realizing I'm doing it, others would never do that even in private with their best friend.

I do have a question. Since there are a few at the top watching over this site is the nuke button a majority vote or can one persons bad mood run willy nilly?

I am thankful to the site for the joy and friendships it has brought into my life and am looking forward to meeting up again in atlanta:beer:

I am puzzled how any one person could find that pic personally offensive. Not seeing it?

What kind of place has this evolved into?

Also, I wouldn't call that long winded thread any kind of an answer to Jakes questions. Just shut up and do what we say.

Is what it is I guess, but no way to treat hands that feed, both mechanically and financially. Think about that next time you get the urge to delete something that my kid or priest would show ME.

No sore spot towards anyone at all from me, too easy and laid back here. Just existing for awhile with a real bad taste in my mouth.

I think that the cars are getting old......we've done about all we can to them and they are OBSOLETE so the whole "Car Forum Environment" has shifted to messin' with folks....including the owners!!

BTW.......I think Logan would shut it down for awhile....or just sell it and move on!!;)

Truthfully....anything other than the car stuff can and will be offensive to someone!!:o

I think Jim has a great idea.....appointed moderators to take the heat off the owners!!

Being a moderator on a forum isn't for everyone, you've got take your own opinions and throw them at the door while being completely unbiased. This means if your good friend does something against the forum rules enough to get them banned then you need to put them on a vacation or ban, no questions asked.

Hmmmmmm.......what would Logan do??:eek::rolleyes:

This ^^^^^ is an easy question. Logan would close or nuke the post or thread completely. No explanations, No apologies. Just a warning.

Repeat offenders were suspended with varied degrees of vacation from 7, 14, 30 days.

Folks that didn't get the message were dropped from the rolls and banned as a member. Logan was savvy enough to pick up new "screennames" for the same old, tired posters and ban them immediately.

Logan had few rules ... the one I remember is that "This is Logan's House. Wipe your feet before entering and don't piss off your host". Short and Sweet. Easy to understand. A bit heavy handed; but understood. It wasn't about "Fairness to All". Logan was the judge, jury and executioner.

The current owners/moderators have taken a "less heavy handed approach" and have tried to let the Forum set and abide by the common ground rules. You see where that has taken us. Everyone wants this to be fair. Some things that wouldn't have made it past Logan's Muster have created a lot of anxiety here.

You've gotten the answer from Mary. Some of you don't like it. Too bad. It doesn't have to be fair. Maybe a return to the Logan Dictator Method will put us back on course. This is NOT a Democracy. You do not get a Vote.

If one of my posts is deleted or nuked, I will know EXACTLY why it happened. Most others also know EXACTLY why their thread was locked or deleted.

Retain your "Boost ...... " signatures at your own peril. You may be trying to make some sort of misguided statement ... but in a week or two, you will be forgotten because your defiance of those who control the site AND the buttons can make you go "POOF". If so, it will have been YOUR CHOICE not THEIRS.

Someone set up a system in which we the members elect a group of moderators, who we think will be fair. Show the results and present it to the owners if everyone feels they can not keep up. Its obvious they either cant keep up with, or do not care about the political threads. Hey, when something "against the rules" happens to also be your own opinion, it works out for you! What would happen if people started posting PRO Obama threads, Pro democrat threads? I'm sure there would be a lot of angry people, and they might get deleted. I can only speculate.

I know there is a lot of power in numbers, and if there were a large group of people on this site who said, "be fair or we leave this site" they may listen and ,may even resolve the issue. I agree that there need to be at least 5 good moderators. This is a pretty big site!

I'm fine with that Charlie, and I don't think my statement is misguided at all. The moral majority to get to run rampant with their opinions and are slowed to start their threads when they have an objection, but because this topic is viewed as childish, we aren't afforded the sane opportunity?

Our point simply is that this post is nowhere near as bad as others posts (some posted by owners) yet it wasn't only closed it was removed.

Yes, their forum, their rules. I wish it wasn't so one sided, but like you said, I don't have to partake in it, and after today I won't.

Well I'm not saying never, and the boost thing is just a small thing. But series of small thing build in to big things, and im still very cheesed over the dear abbey post to Kyle, I think it was uncalled for, unwarranted and way out of bounds. I think he is owed an apology, especially considering the person posting it, has also started personal threads.

When you add the little things up, much like Bob said, it's not the site I'm used to. It's evolved.

That happens, there are people that were original members that left for much the sane reasons I suspect, though it may have pertained to different topics.

This site should be about the car, but we should be able to share parts of out lives, our experiences, life advice based on personal experience. We should not discuss polarizing topics like politics and guns, and we should keep the fun to pg.

Which brings us to this post, the picture is pg, should not have been nuked.

I'll still lurk around in hopes that we can become what we once were, if the tide starts to roll that way, then I can't wait to get back

Nothing will change.

We have rules, but they are only followed when someone posts an opinion of something different than what management feels is right. Feel like you walked into someones house instead of a public place. The owner of the house will feel certain ways on certain subjects, if you don't see things their way you are asked to leave. See things their way and they will join the discussion. Simple as that.

Sex, drugs and anything else that's "offensive" is offensive to the ones that "decide" it's offensive. Not everyone goes to church, votes conservative and has strict rules when it comes to intercourse... but some do. As long as you are in their sandbox that's the way it is.

I have never been offended by any "one" subject and if I am, I need to simply get outside and forget about it. This is a message board that's taken way too seriously by some. If I cannot discuss "offensive" subjects here I do it on facebook, believe me my opinions fly on ALL offensive matters and some have even unfriended me... so be it.

Ask for reasoning all you want, but you will not get the results you seek.

As far as street racing is concerned, I would think a legal matter erupted and they only way to keep ownership and the site out of hot water is to not allow it to happen. From a legal standpoint it's the right decision, but from a petrolhead POV... screw authority.

This site is the main reason I decided to buy a used Marauder, I enjoy the banter as well as the GREAT help from knowledgeable members.
Sure there are a lot of nonsense posts, some political threads and some off color stuff.
When a thread is something I am not interested in I just simply don't read it.
The political stuff does go on further that it should IMHO. Best cure I can offer for that?
If someone posts something politically offensive to you, just don't respond to it, if everybody did that these threads would die a quick and painless death.
I see no way to convince much of anybody think the way I do about certain things and I doubt I or anybody else could in an online forum.

I am sure since the 4 years since I joined here I have probably made a few comments that were not by the book.

But all in all I spend more time here than anywhere else on the WWW.
I try and stay out of the hot and heavy threads because in the end they really accomplish nothing other than getting someones blood pressure up.

Doom, I have always enjoyed pretty much everything I read of yours and hope to meet you in person someday, hopefully in Atlanta in September.

If this site were merely a technical library of our cars and nothing else I would only be here when I had a question or a tech tip.

What I find here is a great group of people, plenty of interesting reading and what I consider to be some good friends.

I will continue to be here and I hope the rest of you will be too.

I don't doubt that you are confused a lot.

Go back and read Pat's post. It WAS NOT aimed at Kyle. It just happened to be posted in Kyle's thread. Read the post and try to understand it. He was commenting on ALL of the stuff that pulls us apart. In a way it was even kind of a prediction of this very thread. I've known Pat for several years. I am sure that there was NO ill intent or ill will in that post. I am sure that he meant it as a light hearted jab at the continuing situation of "disharmony" on the site. If you saw a bad intent in that post .... then you can chalk it up to your reading and not his intent.

Wrong. If not a personal jab, then why do it in Kyle's post? Why not start a thread. That certainty isn't the Pat I have also personally known for years myself.

I understand both sides, and support Doom and the others. I just don't want anybody to leave. It sounds like this had been going on for awhile(before my time) so I don't necessarily see it myself or not until it's pointed out. I couldn't even tell you if anything was thrown my way even. I'm a stickler for fairness and will argue with the rest of you. The only reason I'm not is, agian, haven't been around long enough to argue inteligently in my opinion. But I have seen worse on here and other places to warrent a ...and have prolly thrown some of my own into the mix. If this is truely a "family" site then we all should be able to compromise and at least change some of the things that the majority see as unfair. It is true we are just visitors here and do not own it, but as a memeber, each of us do in fact own a little portion of the site wether we are a contributing memebr or not. As other have said, if we aren't here, there is no forum. It was created to bring people together for the car. But didn't Maury say it in Louisville, it changed along the way and became a family. Family argues, laughs, pokes fun AND supports each other. Family also offends each other. That's not ok, but admitting it happened and seeing the other's point of view and changing so it possibly won't happen again is important. There has to be a compromise in all this. Make a change. If something doesn't changes it becomes stagnit and dies. This site has been around what, more than a decade. It will have to change alittle at a time inorder to make it another decade. And hopefully with all the good poeple typing on it today...:)

Looking back, it seems to me that there were a lot more Left/Right, pro gun/anti gun forums and posts than there are now.

Or, maybe I just decided to ignore them.

I know that even family gatherings are prone to the same type of discussions which turn into family fights, and that's in an environment where people are "face to face" and are "real" family.

We eventually decided, as a family, not to stir the pot.

In 46 years of marriage, my wife and I never had fights or even heated discussions over politics. Now, we do, and we are taking steps to keep our mouths shut.

Besides, I'd much rather have the TV on at dinnertime tuned to old movies instead of the dreaded 24/7, continuous "breaking news/viewer alert" news-cycle.

I long for the days when the news was on from 6 to 6:15PM.

Well said Bob, very well said. This may seem like a little thing to stand behind, but it represents a hell of a lot more than the picture itself.

I'm fed up as well, Jake. With an average of 20+ new threads a day and hundreds of posts a day, am I excepected to read everyone of them? Very rarely do we get reports of "bad posts." When we do, we do take action on them. They are not ignored.

At times, I wish I could walk away. The bickering is very draining. But I can't. I have too much time invested here to throw up my arms. We are by no means perfect and our fortitude is tested time and again.

If you will, this is all our problems. Some people take advantage of the sheer volume of content and think they can get away with sliding in threads, knowing they are unacceptable. And everyone posting in the thread is condoning the subject. That doesn't make it right.

In light of this discussion and the obvious need to have more eyes on the content to maintain consistency, we will be asking a few to step up to moderate. Wouldn't it be great to not need to do any moderation but I'm afraid there will always be a handful that want to tempt fate.

And, yes, Jake, I deleted your signature graphic. The three threads you bumped today? Never saw them before or they would have been deleted sooner. Thanks for bringing the to our attention.

Good night...

Maybe the site does need new mods if they can't be around to do their job.

If you signed up for it, be there to do it right?

Boy, some things just don't change. I just kind of lurk here as I've sold the Marauder some years ago (I think that a_d_a_m is the owner of it now) but it seems that this "disagreement" keeps surfacing every few years or so. Like Dom put it, this is not your sandbox. The owners can delete/not delete and members can agree/disagree but it's a just a website. People seem to take this stuff way to seriously. Stuff that is put in writing can take away many conclusions much different than what the writer had in mind or intended when written. Can't believe that after so long not posting this is the one I respond to. Anyway hope everyone is well and I will still look to see if there are any old car questions to answer. Take care.

To be fair, the person starting this thread is a five flag supporter, and has helped more people here than can be counted. Joe who was given a vacation over this (which I find to be wrong) is also a five flag supporter as am I.

I agree with the above highlighted. I can afford flags but refuse to play this ugly game where some of the flag people feel superior and degrade the non-flag people. Want examples? There are five or six in this thread alone.

I respect the owners here, it's their site to do as they wish. Make it a pay only site or a non-pay site IMO.

Go ahead, blast away, it's my opinion, i'm still entitled to it.

Also, what I find wrong Mary, is you called out Joe in a thread, closed it right away so no one could respond, and then put him on vacation so he couldn't respond. It's sad that the bunny responds with angry bunny, instead of letting us talk it out.

No response was necessary from the Membership. Y'all had already done a good job of talking it out since there were 83 posts in that thread. Joe received an email about our actions.

I think we should get rid of the members only session so folks are not 'second class' citizens here. Open this place up.

I would be glad to entertain that thought in the Members Only forum.

Contributions should be voluntary ... I would even contribute some once in awhile --- i still do at my last car forum.

Contributions have always and forever been voluntary. Access to a Members Only forum, additional Gallery space for photos and the ability to send PMs to multiple people are the few benefits for a Contributing Member, whose donations help keep the lights on here. We appreciate the support and are able to show our appreciation, in return, by supporting Marauderville and many other larger gatherings of MM.Net Members. It is not our intent to segregate the "haves" and "have nots."

Honestly a true Members Only section could solve some problems, let that section have somewhat free reign on topics that would not be allowed to the general public members.

This is one way forum owners can avoid legal issues as well since it's a paid service and buying the membership (usually best to do annual renews) means you agree to the TOS (terms of service) where the owners are not held responsible. Of course there would be some main rules that would carry over but it could relive a lot of tension where people do want to have an adult discussion about topics that would not be allowed in general public.

This can be a win-win for everyone, the site will have more funds coming in to help cover operation costs, allow for more improvements/feature of the forum and let those who choose to post and those who choose to stick their head in a thread and read the posts that can' cry or complain as long as there is no nudity, threats, or racism.

So what you're saying is that we should have a section with no rules...where people can say literally anything?

What would be the point? This is a CAR site...why do people need to post here about sex, guns, government cover-ups, or anything else? Why do people feel the need to post pictures of a highly sexual nature? Aren't there at least a million sites out there that specialize in each of those things? Why does any of it need to be HERE?

I do admit we haven't always been consistent with what is allowed and what is deleted, and we are taking steps to help alleviate that issue, but my comments above stand on their own right. We wouldn't be having this entire discussion if some people didn't feel the need to post potentially inflammatory material that has NOTHING to do with the car.

That's not what I said, what I am saying is allow the "no-no" topics to be discussed in a section where members have paid a membership to as part of their membership benefit. There would still be rules and moderation.

Some people are quite happy with just coming on here and talking about cars. Then there are quite a lot of people who like to talk about other topics with their friends/family that are on this site.

Consistent isn't the right word Bob. When it comes to politics you guys have pretty much taken a hands off approach.

The whole point of this is to not limit discussion to the car. As has been said many times, we are a family and families talk about more than why they are related.

I want to hear about people's experiences, if they are struggling in their personal life, as a brother I want to help. I want to be able to joke around and laugh with my family, and share things with them

The moral majority on this site seems hell bent to take away the fun. Now we will be accused of starting drama with this, but it's really no different than any of the other drama threads started by that sane moral authority.

I give up. It has been said if you leave, then they win.

Yup, you win. I'm too damn tired to fight anymore, and in too damn busy to try.

Congratulations on your victory

Holy crap, I have been trying to think of the best way to say this also since this whole thing came up.

Bottom line is don't like, don't worry about it, this is not the floor of the Senate or a court proceeding for child custody etc., battles here are not won or lost, and if they are, who cares, if you let a car forum hurt your feelings then I can't comment on that, this place doesn't have to be fair to all, it would take WAY TOO MUCH TIME AND EFFORT TO EVER GET THERE, and who decides fair, each one of us has their own definition of fair, so man, decide your own way and jump into what you want and leave the rest alone, enjoy the site for what it is, let the owners do what they do and on we go, this is a car forum, the seriousness that goes on here is way too serious sometimes, if that makes any sense.

Uhhmmm, wow, what a whole bunch of horse s**t, it's the owners board to do as they choose, if you choose to be a supporting member, that's fine, if not, that's fine too. Now we are whining about a "members only" section, and people don't have access? Be a supporting member, you can have access, big deal. I guess it all should be free?

The owners of the board should rely on vendors to pay for their site, while the children that want it all for free, get to have their cake and eat it too. Dod someone buy you a free Marauder? Certainly, same said people would not have paid money for a car, it should be free, others have one.

Personally, I am not taking sides, but I do see the board owners side a lot more clearly than a group that wants it their own way.

I say, let them have at it, I am tired of the bullshi*, I can solve my problem with it, those who know me, know how to contact me, I don't need the board for that......

Best wishes to those that run the board, I would have run it like Logan, weed out the kids.......

Supported for one year so I saw it ... Did not find it worth the funds. I got nothing from it ... Nope I do not attend the big events, but far from California. Don't send PM's to multiple people. So for me, not a good return in my investment.

As for where a site gets money ... Lets see, vendors are a big one. People will donate from time to time to keep the site running -- seen it and done it. Charge folks to sell parts ... We well a lot of them here. Maybe $5 per add ... Give something back to the site that is allowing you to make money on what you are selling THROUGH the site.

Whining about members only section, no ... Just an observation.

As for its the owners board ... They own if but if no one is here, it is worth nothing. If the major players decide to take a leave of absence from this place because of all this drama, others will leave ... Just saying.

Peace all!

You can't just ask like that, you have to say it in code, like in a Mafia comedy.
For example :

"You guys know why the 'Spaghetti Man' did what he did . . .

"Johnny the Nose' posted about this on the 'South Philly Caddy' forum . . .

"I'm not going to talk about it, just Google 'Vinegar and Water' . . .

I have drinks at least twice per month with two friends of mine from my grammar school days.

We graduated in 1956. (Yes, there were public schools back then.) In our kindergarten class picture, taken in 1947, one guy is standing next to me.)

When we meet, we absolutely refuse to talk politics, gun control, FOX/CNN/MSNBC/Rush/Hannity/Matthews/O'Reilly, etc.

It's just not worth risking friendships that have lasted over 65 years.

(But, to be completely honest, we do discuss the Fox ladies.)

By agreeing to these rules, you warrant that you will not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-oriented, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws. This following topics are not allowed on this message board and will be removed if posted: Religion, politics, race/racism, abortion, highly sensitive or controversial subjects that incites arguments, street racing, promotion of illegal drugs or illegal activity, software piracy, material which is exceedingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, extremely sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violate any law, chain letters, pyramid schemes, or any form of solicitation unless authorized and approved by the owners beforehand. The owners of MercuryMarauder.net Forums reserve the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason. VENDOR & CLASSIFIEDS What are the rules for vendors? Are they allowed on the message boards? MercuryMarauder.net defines a vendor as any company or individual that sells, markets, promotes, manufactures or distributes any products or services for the purpose of generating a profit, regardless of the product or service's cost or profit margins. Vendors who choose not to contribute financially to the site are strictly prohibited from using the MercuryMarauder Message Boards to promote or conduct their business ventures in any capacity. Promotion includes, but is not limited to, including links to company web sites, posting email addresses or contact information (including phone and company address), posting blatant advertising or marketing messages or soliciting customers through messages of group purchases, pricing specials, etc. Conducting business activity may include posting order or product status updates or responding to inquiries about products that are not directly made to them. If you are vendor and someone asks about an order status, respond offline, not on the message boards. Violations of these rules are also violations of the Terms of Service that everyone agrees to when registering to use the MercuryMarauder.net Message Boards. As always, violations may result in immediate account termination, depending on their severity and perceived intent. We are very strict in enforcing vendor rules. The bottom line is likely this - if you are here to simply take advantage of the MercuryMarauder Community to further your financial goals and you do not wish to give something back to the operator of the site, you are likely not welcome here. If you are here as a Mercury Marauder enthusiast, you are more than welcome. HOBBY VENDOR: Any Member who makes an annual donation and becomes a Supporting Member, may sell items they make or have made or provide services to the Membership on a limited basis. If you are in the business, full time or part time, of selling such items or providing such services, you must become a Supporting Vendor. See above. MM.Net Administration"

I just finished reading every post on here - they cover a lot of ground. My take? (1) I agree with a lot of what Jake said, (2) I also agree with a lot of what Charlie said, and (3) I can appreciate the difficulty of administering the Board like Bob, Mary and Mike (and Dan) try to do effectively.

Also, as I read this, I recall the circumstances that lead the Michigan guys to break off and form their own board (MCM), free of moderation and interference. What do you hear over there now? Crickets. That's an indicator that unbridled posting is perhaps not a good thing.

The concept that Bob raised early on (and was echoed by Mike and Mary) that resonates the most is how difficult it is to actually moderate all the postings on the Board. With hundreds (thousands?) of postings going up every day, I can't see how Bob, Mary, Dan and Mike have the bandwidth to manage them individually. I used to be on a board like that (it actually was a Yahoo group). Because there were 16 moderators, every single post went through Quality Control. That means whatever I posted might not show up for a week until someone reviewed it. So that level of detailed scrutiny is not an option here.

My opinon (FWIW, perhaps nothing) is that I believe each and every one of us has a responsibility to the Board, as members, to keep things on the rails. We're all part of the Marauder community, and as such we each collectively 'own' the content of the entire Board. Where we may not have the power to delete posts or threads or signatures, we share the responsibility to keep the Board active, alive, and of interest to people so they don't have to close their eyes or grit their teeth when they scroll through a post.

Bob's statement of "use the damn button" is a good one. If we call attention to posts that we may find questionable to each of us, then it starts a review process for the 4 owners. They can decide if the pendulum has moved too far one way or the other and react accordingly. But we each share a collective responsibility to get the process started.

The old adage always was "don't discuss politics or religion." Those are always flammable topics, and for every one who has an opinion, there is always one who has a counter-opinion and is not afraid to argue his cause. That just seems to me a recipe fraught with disaster. And it's easily avoided. My political opinions about Obama, Bush, taxes, welfare and a hundred other political topics don't belong here, because they are magnetically attractive. If I say something about a topic, surely there will be people with opposite views jumping on it, and then it just degenerates from there ("Mark's wrong, and here's why;" Mark's right and here's why;" "No, Mark's wrong, and here's more of why, and you are an (insert favorite insult here);" and so forth). IMHO, its distracting, annoying, and causes people to form opinions about other people based on the silliest bit of evidence. That's why mine stay in my pocket. Your mileage may vary.

Remember - this thing isn't a "business." Logan wanted to sell the Board shortly after he sold his Marauder and bought a Cadillac CTS (STS?). If the Board wasn't "bought," it would have folded completely and disapeared. We owe Mike, Dan, Mary and Bob a great deal of thanks for allowing the Board to still exist when the original owner lost interest. Even with all that, the Board is, at best, a hobby. All four 'owners' have full time jobs and families and commitments that take them away from the Board. So we do what we can to help, like clicking the "Report Post" button when we find what each of us considers questionable content.

We owe it to the collective membership to do what we should, to make this a vibrant place for everyone to participate. And that includes, where the 'owners' haven't found it yet, calling something to their attention. As I said, we have a collective responsibility to everyone else here, and we can't abdicate or transfer that responsibility to the owners, and then get irritated when they don't operate the way we think they should. If you don't get involved, then you can't complain. It's similar to people that don't vote complaining about the person elected. If they cared enough about who got elected, they should vote. Otherwise, IMHO, they've surrendered the right to complain.

Remember - this thing isn't a "business." Logan wanted to seel the Board shortly after he sold his Marauder and bought a Cadillac CTS (STS?).

You hit the nail on the head Mark. You say what I was thinking ( only your better at it )

After spending time away from here for 5 months (self induced) I now read what I want and refuse to get sucked into the taunting tactics that some on here do deliberately. Ignore button IS my friend.;)

You can usually tell pretty quickly if someone is going off the deep end with a particular post.

So, rather than use the ignore button, and possibly miss a future interesting post/subject/comment from that individual, I just skip past the incendiary bomb or ignore that thread completely.

I am as guilty as anybody when it comes to "defending my turf" and slinging stuff back and forth, but I decided a while ago that life's way too short to get involved in internet wars.
