OK, so I noticed awhile back that my headlights came on but a bit delayed from the parking lights. Then worked fine for awhile. However, on the way to work today, my auto lights came on but the headlights were not on. They would not turn on. I eventually got the high beams to turn on so I will have to use that to get home tonight. Fog lights, parking lights, turn signals....all seem fine. I'm assuming its the LCM. I pounded on the buttom of the steering column and cover below it but lights didn't come on (I understand that is the trick). I have an extra one for just such an occassion but I don't have the time this week for a roadside repair.
When I'm ready to install, I understand it is hard to get out and put back in, right?

All depends on if you're a little guy or a "gentleman of girth" such as myself.;)
I've got o pull the driver's seat to get enough clearance to access anytingunder the dash. Guys like FBM and 03mmmonroe can get one in and out in a minute or two.
That said, it is a tight fit, but if you twist and pull on the thing, it will eventually come out.

Lol. I'll have to take that under advisement. If I can't get under there, then my brother probably could help me since he has put on less weight over the years than myself.

I used these instructions from fastblackmerc and had no problems:
How to remove the LCM from a Marauder, Crown Vic or Grand Marquis.
The LCM is about the size of a brick and is located just to the right of the steering column, in front of the gas pedal.
There are 3 electrical connectors on the LCM.
Remove the bottom two connectors by depressing the tabs and pulling on the connectors.
Remove the 2 mounting screws with a 7mm nut driver or socket.
Push the LCM towards the gas pedal while rotating it up towards the roof. Once it’s free of the bracket, pull the back of the LCM down towards the floor.
You should now be able to release the last electrical connector.
Just reverse the steps for re-installation.

I have been having the same issue also with a delay when turning my low beams on. HB works fine and sometimes the LB comes right on with no problem.
The other thing I have noticed is that maybe once or twice a month when turning my LB light on when the headlight switch hits the parking lamp selection the headlights flick on and off real quick and then come on once I am on the headlight selection.
I guess it was just a matter of time.

If you can get under the steering wheel you can get it out. Put the seal all the way back, tilt the steering wheel up. Follow my instructions in post#4.
PM me if you want it repaired.

It wasn't too hard for me,I'm around 300 lbs myself all in the gut. Pulled the connectors out, unscrewed it and fought to get it out. I tried to put it back in and I couldn't so I'll get to that battle later.

Got the LCM out. Followed the instructions which are pretty right on. The difficulty is that tray it kind of sits in, the limited space between it and the accelerator pedal, and two vacuum lines that are in the way. One really does have to wrestle with it to get it out but it does eventually come out.
