View Full Version : Key Fob Question

I recently took the Viper Alarm system out of my car, the installation was horrid and it had to come out before it started the car on fire.
After the removal I got the code for the keyless entry pad and it works. I bought new fobs on ebay and I can't get them to work. I have sync'd fobs before on my other marauders so I know I'm doing it correctly.
My question is: Could the fobs be shut off in the tune of the car?

I believe the fobs go to the DDM (driver's door module)...I don't think the PCM knows anything about them.
You have to be careful with Ford e-Bay fobs...there's something about the Marauder ones not being compatible with ones from other platforms, even if they look identical...

The FCC# on the back has to match.

I'll trade you for your bumper covers.
OK, I'll sweeten the deal and throw in $8 for your floor mats, too.

Part numbers on mine are FBAB-15K601-A A (space between the two A's)
FCC is the same.
I ordered two off ebay years ago by matching up the FCC.

I brought this part a few years back and programed it to my MM no problem.

I would assume that you didn't install alarm. But, how hard was it to remove? Was it spliced into the original wiring in various places? I have
an alarm I need to remove. BUT, it had remote start etc. I am tempted to take it to a Stereo/Alarm shop and have it professionally removed since I have no idea where everything would be. Any ideas/help?

All you have to do is follow each wire and disconnect them were they connect into the vehicle wiring. Since most installers will use 3M taps instead soldering connections, it shouldn't be a problem. Make sure there are no bare wires left.

Is there usually a "brain" somewhere?

Yes, the wires that need to be disconnected will be attached to it.

So, I guess the trick will be looking for the "brain box". Any ideas on where to look and how big it might be? I would guess that this system was put in back when the car was near new. So, it is about a 11 year old system and I have NO idea what manufacturer it is since I have no remotes for it either!:mad2:

Is there an antenna on the windshield? If so follow it.
The controllers are usually under the dash. Look for something that doesn't look factory and is secured with zip ties or electrical tape.

The brains of my system (3 boxes) were just shoved in behind the headlight switch, the antenna was in there too. There was a bank of relays that were about 8" long shoved in behind the defrost button.

Yeah that sounds like the aftermarket alarm unit.

It's amazing what kind of crap work is done by so-called "professional" alarm and stereo installers.
My Grand Ma came with some kind of junk alarm/remote unlock system that didn't work and was installed by a third-grader. There were a million wires and repairing all the stuff that stopped working after I removed it sucked.

Yeah. There is an antenna on the drivers side windshield mounted towards the top. I will check it out in a few days. I have a big workload over the next several days...

Hey Derek, if you don't mind, could you tell me where you got your fobs that worked? I really need another 1 (or 2) since I only have 1 and that makes me nervous.
Also, where'd you find how to program, on here or elsewhere?

I got mine from carandtruckremotes.com . I haven't gotten them to work yet, but, I think it is because of the security system that is in there now. But, their customer service was good (just make sure and leave a message, they will call you back). Just make sure to get the right FCC number.

I got mine from eBay, I just typed in the FCC code on the back of the fob and a bunch came up, the code is CWTWB1U343
Make sure they are 4 button fobs, of course the are the most expensive ones. I paid $38.XX for 2.

As for programming you cycle the ignition from off to on 4 times leaving it on the last time. The locks will cycle letting you know it ok to program. Then you push the lock button on the fobs within 10 seconds.
