Of course go figure... I just committed to pre-ordering the next gen Xbox One for $500 and this thread pops up.

It's going to need some type of reinforcement or skin across the open air. My 2.5" cowl hood flexes quite a lot, you can put your hand on it and move it. Even more dangerous if you take it through an auto wash with the high powered dryers.

Are they going to put this hood into production or just do a limited run of 10 + how ever many more get in on the buy?

That's great! Bob is a great guy to work with. He had told us before that he needed 10 initial purchases to start with to break even on making the mold. Looks like you are off to a good start.

The shop that painted our hood had to do a lot of work to get the rough, unfinished underside smooth like we requested. Just need a good shop to work on it if you plan to do this.

This is the site working at it's best. Even though this particular cowl hood is not my style (I loved the silver birch concept hood you posted) I give you tons of credit for going the extra mile to get things going for those who want one. :bows: Thank you!

Paul, I doubt a hood liner would work, there will be a cutout to make the scoop work, maybe fab work?
There was that guy posting a year or so ago that would do custom liners.

We also do not take it through auto car washes.

I would prefer no pins if possible. Point of the cowl is to stay sleepy. Even if is means more fiberglass material in the front to attach the clamp and/or a steel tube/bar too to sturdy it.

I drive out to Cumberland on business every 2-3 weeks, and I drive right past Class Glass' shop.
I can load up anyone's hood in the bed of my Ranger if you are close to the Baltimore area....or store the hood in my garage until we can meet up.

I am interested in a hood that looks like Todd's as well.
Put me down as a 'maybe' for now.
Is he going to build a prototype hood for us to check out?

BTW: That type of cowl hood actually utilizes the high pressure area in front of the windshield to force air into the back of the cowl hood.
I don't think that you will get much air being pulled out of the cowl area.
Depends on how much space there is between the rear facing cowl opening and the base of the windshield.

Ok guys just talked to Bob about shipping cost and as i stated it depends on where your located, but he said most hoods shipped within the east coast are about $160 in shipping cost, but this can vary depending on truck freight cost.

Also on the time frame we are looking at 3 weeks to a month on the build time, i told him we are looking to have these by Sept 18th (MV11!):banana2:

Also if your serious about commiting to the Groupbuy please post up so i can add you to the official head count in post #1.

You'll be looking for a body shop to paint it, then you would wanna pick up the low pressure hood struts and the installation. I'd figure just under $1K by the time all is said and done. I would also suggest paying the extra to have the bottom smoothed out and finished because it will look so much better with the hood open.

Correct. Very very easy to do. I really like how tall the hoods lifts up now. Soooo much easier to work on.

Proof: :D Hood and struts untouched. Just lift up, headers, blower, and all..

It's all personal preference..to me the smaller cowl looks better but the lines of it don't seem really match the hood lines in my opinion. Just be warned, those hoods will need body work once received. Corners are generally damaged and will need block sanding etc to make it look good.

any crown vic members that has the 2.5" cowl hood that can tell me if the actual TB sits under the cowl ?

on my 05 crown vic with electronic TB, I upgraded to a Edelbrock intake manifold which sits a tid higher then the oem manifold. Its causing The TB to slightly come in contact with the hood by a hair. They will still warp the hood after a couple of weeks. Ask anyone with one.

I ended up using Dodge intrepid struts and front mounts. I drilled and installed the front mounts. Easy stuff and never warped again.
The hood will sit quite a bit higher and is quite the bonus for us tall guys.

I didn’t even touch the hood to accomplish this LOL And I even pulled it out the side..

To answer your PM

“Measure 27 1/2" from the inside corner of the fender/header panel to the hole location”

This keeps the hood open but just barely. It would be nice to find heavier duty ones but these have worked for 8 years now. Any closer to the header panel and it won’t stay open. Any farther back and it will stay crazy high.

I try to keep my inbox full. [emoji6]

As for the mounts ask Nate. He came up with brand new ones from what I remember.

I need to start gathering these parts as I should be receiving a call soon regarding my hood.

Here is a blow up of my original hole and the actual one that worked.

There is a good chance that these were originally round at the base and I trimmed for better fitment. Sorry bro, after 8 years I can’t remember. Besides having to remove the vacuum storage box to reach the nut which isn’t a big deal, these were pretty straight forward to install. Like I said I may have trimmed them with a grinder or bandsaw? But mine sit flush and appear to be OEM factory Marauder.

They recommend some type of hood pins VS the factory latch. I've ordered some aerocatch flush mounts for mine.

Even well into triple digits many times over she’s held up fine... [emoji1303]

On a side note however, the amount of shrinkage this hood has gone thru kills it for me. The first coat of paint I did myself. It laid down like black glass after all the prep work. But even my new at the time air filtration ended up letting in moisture that when cured, cut and buffed, showed it’s ugly face as thousands of microscopic dust looking particles.

So I caved and had my body guy re strip the entire hood top and bottom and shoot it again. But being black, after a year or so I could see almost 100% of the prep work showing thru, light enough that even priming and blocking could hide and another re paint but I’ve learned to just live with it.

The hood struts had to be addressed though. I’m not exaggerating when I say they would make the hood hump up at least 3/4” in the middle along side the fenders in just a couple of weeks. So fast that you would swear it would never stop raising over time and end up looking like a stingray vette LOL

It would take twice as long to settle back down with the struts removed! This I simply could not live with which is why I went to the junkyard originally to find a suitable prop rod assembly. It was there I started to look at other designs of struts, paying attention of where they were directing the exerted pressures in the closed position and noticed right away the Dodge set up.

I wish they were a bit stronger and I’m sure someone will research out even a better set up or at least something that is the same length as Dodge but stronger, I’ve just gotten less and less motivated any more and if something works then so be it..

But what a disappointment using their recommended strut replacements and having it bulge like that!! So much money spent just to see it move out of shape so easily. But relieved that it at least came back into shape. Now if only it were to quit shrinking and showing the body work that would be swell... I’ve often thought of just selling it off as I don’t even need it anymore now that I ditched the insane heat from the Trilogy I was over spinning. This Procharger runs ambient temps and everything stays nice and cool now!

End rant.

I appreciate your research and development as well as your opinions on the hood. Hopefully living in Michigan and my car residing in the garage more times then not, the shrinking will be delayed. But my car is far from perfect or show quality. She spent her first few years in Louisiana before spending the majority in Texas before finding its way to me. Texas sun did me no favors on the car. But that's why Ive done what I've done to it. Being a high mileage sun beat car that's been used and abused.

I've grown to like my hacked up mustang scoop hood, hopefully I'll like the bulge once on the car.

I have 2 questions. So I found some hood strut prop on ebay. Seems like that's what they are called. Ive seen different hight as well as different ball size.

Does the height matter for the actual prop?
What size is the ball, 10mm or 13mm?

ok guys, so I received my hood on the 17th. Installed it the same day as I had in hand the recommended hood struts from advanced auto. Everything went well and install was a breeze. aligned with out any issues and fitment was great.
I'm trying to post pics but it keeps saying upload failed. Tried both from uploading from computer and adding a direct link.

I see different length online and just want to make sure I get the correct ones. Happens that my hood is starting to rise towards the middle by the fender. This sucks

Thank You
