View Full Version : Thinking about a line loc

So I've been looking for relatively not so costly upgrades for my car and I have about 3 on my list right now. One is a killer chiller another is a methanol injection kit and the final one is a line loc. So I understand the idea behind it its just I'm not sure about how to install it and when it comes to my brakes I don't think I'm going to play around with that. Fastblackmerc says he plans on installing one on his car soon and when he gets done he may do mine also. So I guess my real question is what's the better brand for the line loc and parts that go along with it. I'm trying to get the best or at least the best known that works for our cars.

Ive used the Hurst lineloc plenty on plenty of projects with great results, and not one failure/rebuild.
Prolly will be going with the Hurst on the Marauder.

Sorry for my lack off knowledge for almost everything performance wise for this car but umm do you mind letting me know what all parts I would need to buy?

Just the line loc kit, and you will need to bend a few brake line tubes to plumb the line loc into your brake system.

I just love shiny buttons and the thought of burning the rear tires down to the rim with just a flip of a switch intrigues me! So i'm guessing i'll just order the universal roll control kit???

How much of a 60ft & ET difference would a line lock make on an SC'ed car?
That would be what would drive my decision making.
I would bet that a set of mustang rims (slightly smaller diameter) with drag radials would make a bigger time difference than anything else, followed by the killer chiller if you run in the summer alot and high IAT's are causing your car to pull timing.
People post mixed results about the meth kits on PD blower cars, so its hard to evaluate. I think for significant results, you would need an agressive tune which increases engine risk.

A line locs sole purpose is to lock brake pressure to the front tires to allow you to heat up the rears for better hooking/traction with out pulling thru the front brakes.
What happens after that is 100% driver ability!

I get consistent results using my 2 feet. I find in racing the less crap I have to rely on the more wins.
But everybody is different, some do better with as much crap as possible.
In a sport that I participated in at a high level I got rid of all the computers and most of the electronics and we increased the win percentage.:D

I never planed on using the line loc to help get me off the line. I just wanted to have it to relieve some of the wear from the rear brakes when doing burn outs. I guess I'll be going with the Hurst kit so whenever jim gets a chance hint hint I'll have it installed on my car.

It's just a matter of converting the MM bubble metric fittings to flare SAE. Simple as that with the right fittings. Don't quote me as its been awhile but IIRC it goes from masters 10MM Bubble to 7/16 or 3/8 flair thru the unit and back to the factory line. No cutting required. Back to factory in 5 minutes if you so chose later on. I was able to get all adapters and/or small lines with different ends at Advance.
LOL Just thought of something, I am the only one on this board now that actually needs one.

Alright alright we all know you're awesome with you six speed lol! That's cool though I seriously doubt I'll try it myself but if I ever got some free time I probably would actually build up enough courage to try it. That's a unique area of putting your switch...I was thinking of putting mine somewhere near the shifter probably under the center console release button.

The line locks purpose (like mentioned above) is to allow you to do a burn out with out damaging the car. When doing a burnout w/o a line lock by brake torque you have to drive through the rear brakes. Doing this creates massive heat build up that causes premature brake wear/failure, will overheat & possibly boil the gear oil in the outer axle bearing cups which can cause bearing failure & axle seal leaks. (Think of what happens when someone forgets to release the parking brake & drives the car - not good)
With the $$$ it costs to repair these beasts, I look at spending $50/75 on a linelock a cheap investment in saving lots of $ in the future - not to mention the added fun! :burnout:

I have the Hurst. It has a red light to indicate when brakes are locked. It really works well for doing the burnout. I lock up the fronts & heat up the DRs until I see smoke on both sides. I figure it helped my 60 foot time by a tenth with hotter tires. 2.0 down to 1.9 sec.
