first off a hello to all new here, also new to the MM. had it for about 6 months now when i first bought the car with around 100k on it i drove it home (hot rod style) and the od was flashing with no overdrive. eventually i learned that everytime i manually downshifted the car it would act like it would want to go into overdrive but wouldnt until i stopped shut off the car and started it back then all was good. also my speedo is off the the faster i go the more its off (65 shows 50). i voiced these concerns to the ford dealer and there response was it was in the tranny so i thought ill just drive her on. about a month ago my tranny when boom on me so i found a low mileage one and put it in a couple days ago, and low and behold the same 2 problems?? where posibly can i go from here? could it be a tune someone has put on it? also the car seems to feel alot more sluggish off the line than before could something be in a bind?? any help would be appreciated thanks!:help:

I'm confused. Your original transmission had a blinking light and no overdrive, and now the replacement has the exact same problem?
As for the speedo error, have you verified if the PO changed the rear gears? 4.10s are very popular, but you need a tune to correct the speedo and the shift points.

First off. Welcome to the "Machine"!
Where in KY are you? I am in Louisville - Fern Creek area.
It's sounding like you may have different rear gears in the car causing the speedo to be off and a missing tune for the car.
More peeps will chime in about the flashing OD light as I have seen/heard this condition before on the site.
I'll search around while stuffing my face with pizza and beer.

i live in lebanon , were about an hour away. both trannys drive fine when u leave them in drive and keep it there but i love how it feels when at about 38mph on my speedo so im guessing about a little over 43mph in actuality a drop to low feels and sounds, that also makes me think its the factory gear. all i have done to the car is a k&n and got rid of the front cats. the car has 106k on it and the tranny i just put in has around 65k. i cant see it being a coincidence that there would be solenoid problems with both trannys? the only time my od light flashes is when i dont pull over and shut the car off and restart it or now i got so i do a neutral turn off and restart while driving and im assuming the trans gets hot and starts to flash after about 5-10 miles of no overdrive. funny thing it seemed like before i changed trannys i could do a dead stop stomp and at least squall a littler but now its just like i got boat behind me for the first 20 mph. just changed all the cop's and no difference? so its always good to take turn off the od before i start beating on it?

ALWAYS ALWAYS take off ghe OD before beating on it.
NEVER NEVER manually shift the automatic trans.

Ok, now I'm even more confused.
You're saying the transmission shifts fine when left in D, and that overdrive works fine, but when you manually downshift the car, after driving it 5-10 miles in a lower gear the OD light starts to blink?

quoted for truth, I don't know why people insist on manually shifting the trans

lol , overlord. the transmission shifts fine when left in D, and that overdrive works fine, but when you manually downshift the car and come up through the gears it will not go into overdrive and after a few miles of no overdrive the light starts to blink. i think i have to have done something to the car or the transmission is not the same cause after a few beers i went to do a couple tire smokings and it would barely spin one tire and when it was turning both there was no hope of decorating the road? the reason i downshift is because the car will not drop down into low at around 4500 5000 rpm by just stepping down on it

I see a new tranny and rear end clutches in your future.

What ^^^Jim^^^said!
These cars from the factory came with automatic transmissions. Put it in drive and go.
Manually shifting is of no good to you honestly, and will cause you expensive headaches down the road.
Next time you plan on coming to Louisville, let me know via PM, and we'll try and hook up?

could it be possible to have something in a bind? i know i just broke that e brake cable off the crossmember cause it had me so frustrated and never put it back but wouldnt that have it fully released?

Lemme try again: you're saying you manually select L and accelerate, manually shifting to 2nd, then into Drive, but OD will not engage, even after you let up on the gas...A few miles later the OD light starts blinking...have it got it right this time?

bout to go put the e brake cable back and see if thats my problem but i think i broke it off of the crossmemberIf you'd been driving like that with the parking brake on all this time, you would have smelled the pads burning. Get hold of a ScanGauge or something that will read transmission fluid temps. You may be going into limp mode.
