Stopped in at O'Reiley's to return some parts and the guy behind the counter commented on the Marauder. Said he had a P71 and all he had to do was supercharge it and it would be the same as the Marauder. Said stock his 2001 had over 300hp. I read as of 08 they has @ 250 HP. Was he correct??? Just curious...

He's dreaming.

The Marauder has 302 at the crank.

:concur: w/ fastblackmerc. Wonder if the CVPI owner was confusing the torque rating (297 ft./lbs.) for its alleged horsepower. :dunno:

He just needs to have his buttometer calibrated.
It is affecting his fact finding abilities

Buy a locked SCT tuner. Sell it to him and tell him that it contains the only thing that he needs.
The "Cop Chip".

Remember those numbers are at the crank.

Actual HP at the rear wheels will be less.

A guy who claims his stock CVPI has 300 HP is either lying or is sadly mis-informed.

Unless the department that sold it forgot to remove the cop chip before releasing it to a civilian.

That's what I thought, but didn't want to get into a "discussion" with him. I've driven a P71 around those years(a buddy of mine was on the Hillview Police Force) and you talk seeming to be under powered!!!I chalked it up to him trying to bring down the Marauder probably because he couldn't get one. Since he asked if they were hard to find.

I am always surprised at how much stupid crap I hear at car places and gun shops.

Similar thing happened to me last week. I was at a show/cruise night and some fool tried saying that his buddy put the top end of a Marauder onto his vic.

But back to the topic at hand. Having owned a CVPI with full bolt ons and a tune, and now the the Marauder (had both for around 5 months), the Marauder would take the vic to the cleaners even on a bad day. This guy clearly has no idea what he's talking about

DUH! As are all published manufacturers power stats.

well, that's rated horsepower. not actual horsepower. actual horsepower at the crank is almost always 5-10% less than rating, particularly the older the engine gets, horsepower at the wheels is generally 20-33% less than rating.

You should have said "No, there's one in the parking lot right now." and just dropped the mic and walked off stage like a boss.

This is actually possible, seems like a pain to me, but it's certainly doable.

Nice...Soo many things I wanted to say but just bit my tongue and nodded as I got my money back...I was waiting for him to say, "Nice Grand Marguis." So I could say, "Really, where?" To reuse a members line...

Logizyme - well, that's rated horsepower.
Like the Marauder's "302 HP / 318 FtLb" the #s are advertised (as noted in the chart title). *And due to manufacturing/assembly variances not necessarily EVERY engine will have it.

In 1972 the standard was changed to measure it at the crank/flywheel with standard production-type belt-driven accessories, air cleaner, emission controls, exhaust system, and other power-consuming accessories.

actual horsepower at the crank is almost always 5-10% less than rating,
Not true. *.above.

particularly the older the engine gets,
Not necessarily true, though understandable.

horsepower at the wheels is generally 20-33% less than rating.
Depends upon the driveline components and is mostly influenced by transmission type. In the case of a 4R70W or 4R7EW, IIRC it's ~18%+- but http://www.gdmjoe.com/dunno.gif for sure.
