I have some tired Nitto 555DRs & am thinking of going to the M/T racing slicks. Which part number (or size) of the M/Ts have you used on a Marauder? They sell one at 27" tall to the Mustang crowd, but is that too short for our MM computers?

The ads say little or no burnout is needed with the M/T. Really? What have you experienced with M/Ts? Thanks.

I have used Nitto DR, M/T Cheater Slicks and M/T DR.
With my Vortech despite what they say if each fender well is not filled w/ smoke during the burn out the risk of spin out is high.
I am currently running the M/T DR and overall I am happy with them. I race it the way I drive it to the track. I have never had to abort a run with the M/T DR.:D

Doing a huge smokey burnout with MT ET street radials actually makes them hook worse. It balloons them, and draws the oil out. They aren't lying, little or no burnout is needed. My tires are still warm from the drive there and I've just driven around the water box and they were fine.

If you get a different set of wheels for the rear (15s are your best choice) you can get some mickey thompson et pros. It's the best drag radial DOT approved tire in the world right now, and it's a 28" tire.

This is what's possible on that tire.

My experience, no smokey burn out spin out every time with Cheater Slicks or
drag radials. But every car is set up different. With over 260 runs I have tried a lot of different techniques.
Try several ways and see what works best for your car.

M/T Tech

BURNOUTS- FOR MOST APPLICATIONS
The length of your burnout will be dictated primarily by the ambient and track conditions. The hotter the temperatures, the shorter the burnout. When the temps get cool, a longer burnout will be necessary. Ideally you want the tire temp to be within 15 degrees of the track temperature on the launch. When the track temps exceed 120 degrees, it is always best to keep your tire temps on the lower side. Here are some additional tips for maximizing the performance of your M/T racing tires.

1. First pass of the day will be your longest. After that follow the guidelines of #2 and #3 stated below.
2. Automatic transmissions and Bias tires with Softer compounds: First pass or two, fairly hard burnout relative to ambient conditions. After that a light burnout should be sufficient.
3. Standard transmission and Radial tires: Typically shorter burnouts are better. A light burnout, enough to haze the tires, then stage immediately.
4. No dry hops. This does nothing to improve traction, and in some cases can have a negative effect.

I don't know what the hell cheater slicks are. Never heard of that brand. I just know what works for me. This is at a very marginal track, and with 275/50-15 drag radials. It's just a 1.72 60', but the next pass I did an identical burnout and launched on more boost.

This was the next pass, I aborted it around 500', but the 60' should give you the idea.

go pro of the aborted pass:

Drag radials aren't like the rocks you put in a hookah, so the directions about the first burnout being the longest makes absolutely no sense. Consistency is the best for radials, unless of course you just like buying tires.

This is an "M/T Cheater Slick";
"ET Street
Worlds Fastest D.O.T. Class Race Tire.
World's Fastest D.O.T. class race tire. Same great features as our race winning ET Drag with a D.O.T. stamp that meets the rulebook specifications for street tire classes. Tube type for extra sidewall strength, better air retention, and more consistent ET's.

D.O.T. Approved
Compounded For Maximum Traction
Requires Little or No Burnout
Engineered For Consistent Performance

Acceptable practice for rim width is tread width plus or minus 1''.

IMPORTANT: ALL DRAG DRIVE TIRES MUST BE MATCHED TO BE WITHIN 1/2'' ROLL OUT.

CAUTION: It is not recommended that radial and non-radial tires be mixed on the same vehicle.

All Mickey Thompson ET Street tires are designed for drag racing use. While Mickey Thompson ET Street tires meet Department of Transportation requirements for marking and performance, they are recommended for DRY PAVEMENT USE ONLY."
As I stated see what works for your car. In most cases a good way to start is following the advice of the Mfg.
A Marauder and a Chevy powered turbo Crown Vic may not be the best comparison.
