First off, I apologize for asking as I am sure this topic has been discussed many times over. I have been doing searches on the MM site for the past hour, and have not found my answer. If anyone out there can give me a few search tips that might help, I'd appreciate it. I've tried blower, blower motor, fan motor, bcm, eatc diagnostic, an on and on. I did find the eatc diagnostic test directions as a fluke when reading some of the posts. I tried regular search, advanced search, various forum searches, etc.
Anyway, current symptom: fan motor stopped abruptly today
history: no problems leading up to this recently. I did the EATC repair/replacement this past winter (with the help of FB Merc) so I think the o-rings are ok.
diagnostics: I ran the eatc diagnostic test: the whole display lights up with no codes showing.
I checked the fuses, and they're all fine (I do not have an owners manual so I just checked them all - couldn't find a fuse diagram in any of my searches on the site - again, I must be doing something wrong in my search function)
From what little I've read about the BCM, it sounds like it might be the culprit, but before I tackle the replacement, I'd like to be sure. Is there another fuse or relay I should check? Or is this typical of the BCM? I tried tapping (banging) on both the BCM and the blower motor - no response.
Thanks for your help.

Bcm?
Did you try tapping it. It's near the middle on the passenger side of the firewall
Fbm does a repair for 25. I bought a new one for 65

Most likely it's the BCM (Blower Control Module). If you tap the module the blower will probably start to work. You'll need to replace the BCM.
As stated, I offer a repaired BCM for $25.00 (shipping included). It's true you can get a new BCM for less than $75.00 but you will eventually have the same problem with it.

Dang, you guys are quick! I was trying to edit a mistake in my post and by time I fixed it and re-posted it, both of you had replied already! If tapping the BCM does not get the fan blowing, is it still likely the BCM?
If it is the BCM, does the diagnostic EATC test pick that up?

Use Google for searches. The query service on mm.net is sub par.

You can try to supply power to the blower motor. If it works the bower motor is OK. Very unlikely it's the blower motor. More likely the BCM. There is a bad solder joint in the BCM. Sometimes tapping the BCM will cause the joint to connect causing the blower motor to work.
The EATC self-test will not check the blower motor or BCM.
The o-rings will not cause the blower motor to not work.

Perfect. Thanks for answering my questions so precisely. Would you mind shooting me your address so I can send it to you for repair?
MeBot-thanks for the response on the search too.

I have one already repaired.
All I ask is that you send the old one back so I can repair it and get it to someone else.
PM sent.

When mine quit, it was the BCM. Not too terrible to replace.

I've had mine go bad 3X! You WILL need one sooner or later!

Replaced the BCM in both my Marauders with an OEM unit. Never had to do it again.

My replacements were Motorcraft, from the Ford dealer I once worked for.

For what it's worth......
A Mercury dealer mechanic I trust highly (he's worked on my 91 GM,98&03 Expy's,96 Cougar,2003 Taurtus,2003 GM Ultimate and both my MM's) advised me after I'd told him I'd replaced the BCM to replace the fan motor also or I'd end up replacing the new BCM in a while.
I'm going to replace the blower motor this summer,it's MUCH easier getting my big hands in there to change that than changing out the BCM again.
I did save the old BCM,maybe I should send it to get the upgrade/fix done, just in case.

The reason you have to or will have to replace another BCM (original one or new one) is the crappy solder job done on the BCM. It has nothing to do with the blower motor. The BCM controls the speed of the blower motor, nothing more.
When I repair one, I re solder all the connections inside, fixing the substandard job.

Interesting possibility with the motor, but the latest BCM has been working since last fall. I suspect it is a fault in design & engineering, just as with the wacky wiper syndrome, door window switches, and EATC failures.

If I can dig the old one out from in my shed can I send it to you for the upgrade/repairs?

I understand that the reason we are seeing solder joint failures in these modules and the radios is that the good ole EPA madated that the manufacturers no longer use leaded solder so we can save the planet. The "new and improved" lead free solder will not tolerate shocks and vibrations like the old leaded stuff. Now what environment is full of shocks and vibrations more than a moving vehicle? The law of unintended consequences rears its ugly head.

Back in the mid 80's,(1980's,not 1880's,lol),I worked a cash job for an authorized Delco repair outfit. We'd get scads of Delco radio's from GM dealers every day. Most of the time they were an easy fix as some of the solders on the circuit boards would get loose. They'd simply open the bottom(?) of the radio and hit each and every one of the solders on the bottom of the board, close the radio up and it was good to go.An easy $35 charge for each radio. They explained to me that with all the hot and cold cycles the radio went thru made the solder joints brittle and intermittent,a quick touch of the tip of an iron was the fix.BTW,if you have an old GM with the stock Delco radio that's acting up the quick way to tell is to turn the radio on,hit the top of the dash a real good one and if the radio suddenly works you now know what the problem is and the cure.If it's eating cassette tapes you're on your own, that's a whole different ball game.

Thanks (again) to Fastblack Merc - Jim, you were great to work with, and your BCM works perfectly. Problem solved.

My apologies in asking a related question in an "old" thread, but I think I may have a BCM issue. The other day I got in the Marauder & turned on the climate control by tapping the "Automatic" button, nothing happened! :mad2:I then drove a few blocks over rough city streets and suddenly I had AC! Am I wrong to assume that driving over rough pavement would be the same as physically tapping the BCM?
Thanks in advance for any input!

Rough pavement *could* jar the BCM enough...next time it happens, do the tap test and see if you can duplicate the result.

As stated above, tap the BCM next time it doesn't work. If it starts working the BCM is failing.

Thread kind of old but I think I have a failed blower motor or something to do with it. Worked fine the last time i drive it. 50* tonight and it will not work. Tapped on the blower motor and reseated the plug. Checked fuse under the dash and it's good. Not sure what else to check. Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Tapped on the blower motor You tap on the Blower Control Module, not the motor.

I will have to look that part up. Not sure where it is
Edit: found it, tapped on it and the blower came on. Thanks!

My pampered MM ususally sits in a garage. Last night I parked it in the driveway (having drove 80 trouble free miles) and this morning the fan won't turn on. It got down to 30 degrees and had frost on the car this morning so I figured the cold temps did something.
FBM, do you still offer the remanned BCM's? Looks like I'll need to address mine.

try soldering all the connections....You may be able to see the loose connection also in the BCM.....

You need a very large soldering iron to do it.
