Hey all, me and my bro ripped out the terrible 90 degree plastic lines that were kinked on both sides of the fuel filter and installed a new 3" Motorcraft filter with Goodyear rubber fuel lines. I couldn't bend the metal lines on engine side of the filer so I had to curve the line a bit. Anyways, it started rough so I assumed it was re-pressurizing the line and such. However, it threw a code, P1235 - Fuel Pump Control Out of Range. Is this because whoever I bought it from hadn't swapped it out in 40k miles and the computer has to learn the new, clean, bigger filter? The car runs better than ever now that I changed everything over. The check engine light is still on but I'm not sure if the guy at advanced cleared the old one since he was too busy asking me a ton of questions about the car and I'm waiting on my SCT from Reinhardt. Any suggestions?

Clear the code and all will be fine. The pump just had to do extra work to repressurize the fuel lines.

^^^what FBM said^^^

The FPDM went out of range due to the presence of the empty, much larger than stock filter. The light will go out by itself in a few drive-cycles. In some states, MA and CA for sure, it's illegal for a FLAPS to clear codes.

I'll let it be for now then. Boy am I glad I live in Florida where pretty much everything from cars to guns are loosely regulated. However...I do live in Florida after all.

I did notice that it is harder to start now. I wonder if I kinked the lines when I put the new fuel hose in. I tried to bend the metal pipe going from the filter to the engine but even using a box wrench I couldn't bend it straight so the angle may be a bit too extreme.
