Took The Blackbird out of storage this afternoon, to give her a run before heading to the NH meet next weekend. After I got home, I was just looking at "things" under the hood and realised the intercooler pump wasn't running. I didn't beat on it during the run, but did do a few miles on the highway, plus a couple of errands around town. It seemed to run mighty fine, and I don't THINK I hurt anything...do you?

Pump not circulating fuild or not running at all?

Not running at all, so no coolant circulating.

Not jumping to conclusions but if your pump needs replacing this is the one I went with. It will pump more volume and help lower IAT's some. It helped with my setup.

Doubt if you did any damage. Just replace the pump.

Not running at all, so no coolant circulating.

Suggest checking the following first:

1. Fuse

2. Relay

If both of those are okay, then the pump motor may have failed (fairly common problem). They can be repaired. Check out: http://www.nloc.net/vbforum/how-articles/205768-how-intercooler-pump-6-00-fix.html

If the pump runs, but doesn't pump, prolly air in the system (ask me how I know...;)).

Rex, I know I can fix the pump issue, I'm more concerned if I did any damage to the engine by driving around with the pump not working.

You're car will be fine - now go eat a donut and stop worrying! :P

Oh and if the pump is pooped the pump mentuioned by Brother Wright is a great way to go.

Doubtful. IATs prolly got a bit warm, but PCM should have pulled timing accordingly, to keep the engine from going BOOM. Keep in mind that the I/C cooling loop is pulling heat out of the intake air, not from the engine itself, so it's not "system critical." As long as you weren't going WOT, then shouldn't be any problem.

FWIW, I recently had issues with the I/C pump on my car. Lost pressure in the reservoir and got some air in the I/C causing intermittent pump caviation. Result was similar to air in the engine cooling system; I was seeing fluctuating IATs on my AeroForce, which alerted me to the problem. Ended up draining, refilling, and burping the I/C, but drove it a couple hundred miles that way on the way back from Hammond (last leg on the way home). No issues now, life is good.

This assumes the PCM is reading post IC temps.

Ah, excellent point.

I'm set up with IAT2 in the lower intake manifold, so readings are post IC temps, not certain how Bob is set up.

Bob does not have IAT2, so intake temp is taken at the MAF.

For the record, I doubt if I hurt anything but I figured I'd ask in case there's something bizarre about Eatons I wasn't aware of.

Nope, pretty straightforward: Suck lotsa air inna Eaton, where it make da big air little bitty so's all dat air'll fit inna motor where it gets big again. Mix dat big air wit' some gas-o-line, add some fire at jus' da' right time and -WHOOOOSHHHH!!!!! :drive:

I have had problems with the intercooler pump electrical connector, causing the pump either not to run or run at a reduced speed. The spring portion of the connector gets weak over time and develops a poor connection to the pump. Consider pulling the connector off the pump and use something to adjust the connector.

Had this issue with my Trilogy car, but also with my supercharged Marquis in the past too.
