My power steering is acting up 1st hard then soft then normal. How do I test my power steering pump to see if it is going bad ?

Sound like it could be the VAPS (Variable Assist Power Steering) module or switch.

Try soaking the lower shaft u-joints with WD or CRC. They're very close to the exhaust manifold and the grease dries up and they get stiff.

Check and see if the pump is flowing to spec,if not its VAPS as they are know to fail........good luck either way the pumps about 150 and the rack.......450.....ouch

I bought some "Sea foam Trans flush". I will try this 1st. Just need an hour I will run some of this stuff through to see if it breaks up some of the varnish & crud. Then I will evacuate & add new power steering fluid.
