Best place to buy tires online (best price)

Hey everyone, I have been pinching pennies lately and am going bald in the tire department...

If anyone could recommend an awesome website to help me stay frugal that would be great!

Or if anyone has slightly used rear tires they would sell cheap let me know too!

Check the for sale forum here - there's a set of steelies with winter tires for $300. Shipping would be another $100 or so.

I think the cheapest set of tires you can assemble in tires sized for our car (+/- sizes searched as well) is $594 delivered, plus at least $40 for M&B.

Another vote for Tirerack they have the best service. Fact is that Discount Tire stores actually buy some of their tires from them. I found that out when I ordered some tires from tirerack and when they took longer to show up than I expected I called them. They showed them as delivered and when we looked at the address it was the nearest Discount store. Apparently they had ordered a bunch of tires from Tirerack and the UPS driver assumed all of the tires on his truck were destined for there. The called Discount the manager admitted they had them and she told them I would be in for them. I get there and they went out and pulled them out from the bottom of the stack behind another stack and the shipping labels had been removed.

Tirerack is good to research tires but they want you to pay shipping too. Discounttiredirect.com has free shipping, and are fast. Had tires in 3 days of my order. Tirerack may seem to be cheaper at first but when it all adds up, its not.

For instance I have had numerous shops around me (Tire Center, Goodyear, Mr. Tire etc) give me a lot of grief about bringing my own tires in to be mounted & balanced. They push the fact that there is no warranty by bringing my own tires in and just "complain" in general. And don't get me wrong, obviously I know I'm cutting into their sale by not buying from them directly. Sure, I understand. But they really have made it a hassle. It has really turned me off to buying tires online and get them installed in a shop.

The biggest drawback of tire shops is lack of selection. They have a few things in stock that they try to push you into, and if you want anything else you're SOL. It's worth shopping around for a place that will handle tires bought online just to overcome this, and get exactly what you want, IMO.

As everyone mentioned Tirerack or treaddepot offer the best price plus free shipping. Then I call local tire places ask for price match. Plus tire mounting, valve stems, balance & disposal fee. They always come within ten to fifteen dollars more but the conveince is worth it.

Which is why you get them from Tirerack and use one of their installers, it is particularly good if you pick one that you can have the tires shipped to. That way you don't have to have them sitting on your front porch while you are at work.

I live one town from Hackensack NJ. Tire rack uses Globe Tire in Hackensack, as one of their local installers. I have never been given the run around by the Globe staff. They called when the tires arrived (the day after I ordered them on line). If you got a song and dance from one of their installers, contact Tire Rack. They certify that their installers are above board.

If you EVER have that happen, you turn around and walk out the door - period.

Find a different place to have them mounted.

Tire/repair shops are a dime a dozen. There are too many places out there for a person to go for service so losing a customer because an employee talked to a customer like that is not acceptable.

You are the customer, if you want to bring in your own tires = no problem.

If I ever heard my employee talk like that I'd do a disciplinary write up on them.

OEM 235/50R18

Ive been running larger on the front for a while as when I got my widened rears from Mowtown I rolled the OEM rears to the front as they had good rubber. Don't like the way it drives with bigger fronts - too much bump-steer.
