the fire didn't even burn the hoses, but it would have to be looked at closer. normally when a car burns the aluminum melts, this doesn't seem to be the case, but aluminum also looses about 50% of its strength when heated above 600 degrees, so the metal might be severely fatigued.

Since Dom is passing and I live nearby, I called the owner and had a nice long chat. I may end up purchasing this car...Interesting history on this car. I'm not totally committed to undertaking the job of parting out this vehicle, so if anyone here REALLY wants the car and wants me to look at it, let me know...FYI, the motor/trilogy appear undamaged..crank freely rotates, good compression, nothing burnt...The fire came from the carriers wheel, went up the passenger side wheel well of the marauder and caught the hood on fire.

It did...It was a texas car and then the owner was in an accident. The car was rebuilt and has a salvage title. It was rear ended, so don't know that I'd trust the frame, but the current owner's plans were to put it back together and he says the frame is straight. The car was bought by someone in PA and that's when it caught on fire in transit. The current owner bought it from the Insurance company, and had it inspected by NC DMV to which it still has a salvage title I believe. The title is currently in his company's name but he plans to transfer it to his person.
With it being a Salvage from two states, I don't know if I'd go through the effort of putting it back together as his plans were, but it does appear to have plenty of parts.
Dom, let me and the gentleman know what your plans are as soon as you can, as we were already working on a tentative deal when I saw your post and put on the brakes. If I end up with the car and you want to purchase the engine, then you'd be first in line. Otherwise, I'd probably hold onto the entire assembly in case mine every blows.

I apologize to those that were working with Dom to remove particular parts from this car. I can't answer for Dom, but what I can say is what my involvement has been. I saw this car on my local craigslist. I knew there would probably be a thread on here and I knew that Dom had been looking an engine awhile, so when I saw that Dom was working on getting the car originally, I didn't pursue it. I then saw where Dom said he no longer was going to get the car, so I called the owner and we began talking about a deal. Shortly thereafter, is when Dom I guess started lining up financial backers to trade parts for getting the car's engine. So, I backed off the deal, told Mark the owner, that I would let Dom's deal run its course. Dom then said that Zack had found him an engine and was no longer interested in the NC car, so I restarted my deal with the owner and have plans to check out the car in the morning. I've already arranged a carrier to pick up car, and if the car is as advertised will probably purchase.
It all depends on the condition of the engine/trilogy and the car in general as to what I'll ultimately do with it. I may turn it into a project with my son to put back together, or I may just part it out to fellow MM enthusiasts. I've already received many PM's from people lining up for particular parts, and I don't even have the car yet :)
So, please understand, there's alot of unknown's with the disposition of this car right now. And again, my sincerest apology to those that feel like they're left holding the bag. My intentions were honorable letting Dom pursue the car and I didn't realize it involved so many others.

I had a set dollar amount I was willing to spend and the owner wanted too much.
I PMed other people to take my place so you could follow suit. I didn't back out and say good luck. I told others I was backing out so they could simply take my place.
I did my best to keep everyone happy, but I guess I failed.

Just from my personal experience, parting out a car takes a lot of time and covers a lot of real estate with the removed parts. It also takes a long time to make your investment back so consider all angles when taking on this project. If you rebuild it then great, plan on keeping it for a long time because it has a salvage title and a few accidents on its record so re-selling it for what you are about to put into it isn't going to happen.
Good luck with what you decide to do!

The end result first: I'm not purchasing this car, so those that were working with Dom on financing this purchase, feel free to continue.
I won't go into alot of detail, as I don't want to derail the seller who is a nice guy trying to cover his expenses...What I learned:
Asking price is pretty firm. I did make an offer that was refused.
Almost everything from middle of block towards passenger wall is affected by fire or is completely gone. Supercharger cooler, pump, resevoir, hoses are all gone.
Wiring harness, plugs, etc on left side of block (towards pass side) are burnt to copper. That means at least sustained heat of 120 deg C (close to 250 deg F).
Radiator, front trim piece, front clip are gone. Replacement front bumper is from a blue car and cracked in places.
Hood sustained considerable heat and warped.
Interior is nice...driver seat doesn't have normal wear spot by seatbelt. A bit mildewy from sitting for 3 years in the elements.
There's more if anyone is seriously pursuing the car and wants to PM me for details. Someone could probably make some money on parting out car, but it would be a sustained effort, and the engine/blower would have to be gone through.
Lastly, the owner is seriously considering putting the car back together himself, and I'll forward him some info on obtaining missing parts. That's why his offer price is fairly firm. If he has the skill and patience to do so, I encouraged him to, as that's one less marauder that doesn't disappear from the roads :)

Yes, that's what he discussed with me that he was having thoughts of reassembling the car. Those things he's asking for are MM specific. Most of the other stuff he's missing he can get from a donor CV. I've put him touch with a member here for the harness...I wish him luck and hope he can save it.
