Just received my "factory" spoiler from FordPartsNetwork.com (thanks for the tip, Murader03!). Price was $226 incl. shipping... Dealer wanted $299 plus 100 bux installation...(HARHARHAR - maniacal laughter)

I'm gonna have my local customising shop install it, as I hate the thought of drilling holes in my car. This local place just put a spoiler on a 2000 CVPI that is now my town's DARE-mobile, and it came out super...I guess there's no substitute for experience.

Has anyone installed it him(or her)self? Any tips or hints to watch out for? I think mine is the first Marauder they will have worked on...not trying to second-guess them, just want to know how it should be done.

It is much easier than it looks.
I installed it with my friends dad who has 30 years body shop experience. He was going to do it his own way until he read the directions he threw away initially. His own quote "Wow, i've never seen directions this good". We ended up following the directions to the tee and it was installed perfectly. Hint: Those four odd looking pieces of plastic are they key to your success. Do some rough lining up of the spoiler before you expose the adhesive on those pieces that fit in the bolt holes. When you are confident where you want it, remove all of the protective paper, push it in place, and they should be stuck to the car. Just drill right through the center of them and the rest is easy!

Zack:

Thanks, bubba...I briefly looked over the instructions last night and said forget it...that's why I'm having a custom shop do it...

I was wondering about those plastic strips...now that I've read your response, they make more sense.

I just don't want to deal with cutting out the templates and drilling all the holes, THEN finding out I'd switched the left and right sides...ack... or watching the drill bit walk a four-foot scratch across the trunk...

Exactly what Zack said. I did the install on my Marauder myself and the directions and kit are excellent and confidence inspiring.

Seriously, it's an easy do-it-yourselfer, even with the drilling into your paint. :) As far as that goes, if you want to ensure nice smooth holes, put a piece of masking tape over the area to be drilled through first.

Thanks to you, too, Logan...

Maybe I will give it a whirl myself...the shop can't do it for another week and now that it's arrived, I kinda want it installed yesterday...

I have all the tools, it's just that drill bits and I aren't the best of friends when it comes to body work.

Best way to use a drill bit to go through body metal is to use a punch to make a small dent where you plan to drill. That will seat the bit so that it doesn't go skipping across your paint. :)

Beyond that, just take your time and you'll be fine.

Honestly, i cringed at first when i saw the installation docs, "what, i have to drill into my baby"... Then i saw what my dealer wanted to install it. $$$$ And I thought well, if some dumb lot kid is just going to install it. I know i will take more time, get it right, and keep the drilling and scratching down. So, i read and re read the directions. After the first hole, its a piece of cake. I say do it and do use those little plastic thingies. Oh, and i went to home depot and bought all new drill bits, and the hole saw, and a punch. The total cost for all new tools (minus and drill) was about $20. It was worth it, and i know i did a better job than the dealer, and most importantly. I saved $$$$$

Have fun, consider this "bonding time" with your marauder.

Dave

I am the only one that is dissapointed in the paint quality on the spoiler? Mine has TON of orange peal. Did I get a bad one, or are they all this way? Am I being too picky here?

Russ,

It sounds like you got a bad one.. I have seen two and neither had a paint problem...

russ:

I just opened the box and mine has a little orangepeel...if anyone's close enough to notice, then they're WAY too close...this thing looks like vacu-formed ABS, so it probably won't be absolutely flawless...
