I'm carrying this over from Blk04MM's "Tracking Down A Misfire" thread :

http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=88764

I know the recommended procedure is to remove the two (02) Torx security screws and take the MAF sensor out of the housing to clean it.
I usually just remove the part of the intake tube with the MAF in it, and spray the sensor without taking it out of the housing. Is this half-a**ed ?

I wouldn't call it "half a**" ...I've done it that way plenty times. I wanted to remove the screws entirely and remove the maf to inspect due to the problem I was having.

Ok, thanks. Considering how infrequently this has to be done, if it's going to make any difference at all I might as well do it to spec :o

I clean mine every time I clean my JLT filter. I use CRC QD Electronics Cleaner which is exactly the same as their MAF cleaner but a buck or so cheaper.

Do you take it out of the housing, or just spray what's exposed in the intake tube ?

I unplug it, spray the sensor twice (5 mins between), let dry for 15-20 mins and re-install.

I usually clean the IAC as well when I do the MAFS. Throttle body gets cleaned every other time. I've been doing this method for probably 6-7 years now and have over 200k on the motor.
