I know all you folks that are still freezing are going to give me s**t but temps in northern CA went over the 80's for the last few days and I had my air on for the first time. It did not appear to be cooling as much as I would have expected and I'm not looking forward to the summer months.
The car is an 04. Any idea what the specs are for cold air coming thru? I am going to bring it to the dealer but wanted some info in case they BS me on the non-freon based AC systems.

If I need it to blow cold I does it. I've maybe had my AC off maybe three time since i've bought my MM. The dealer should be able to hook you up no problem.
You need to be sure and take it to the dealer. I've got mine on "AUTOMATIC" all the time @ 72 degrees....no matter what the temp is outside, and mine works, I think, better than any car I've ever had...

I would agree my AC has been pretty good.....and I like it cold....65 all the time...but find that gets too cold at night......I think you should visit your dealer.....

I'd try "Vent" turn the temp all the way down, and the roll nob all the way up.
Try "Max A/C" too, and see if either of the two above options work.
Also, if you don't like the smell of something out side "Max A/C" closes ports in the system and does a recirculating bit.
MAX AC will give you more cooling power as the air is recirculated rather than partially exchanged. just a note.

Try putting a thremometer in one of the vents and check. That's what they will do...if it's off, they'll fix it.
Oh, and BTW, I know you warned us, but I can't resist....I just roll the window down around here. Depending on how far I roll it down, I can adjust the cabin temp from 16 to 36 degrees on any given day.:D

Slowest blower speed will produce the coldest temp.
You should check the reading before going to the dealer by using your own thermometer.
I have not looked yet but their is a place to check for bubbles in the system:)
One thing you did not tell us is if the compressor is making any noise?

dflynn, the exact same thing happened to me when I bought my MM. The first day I had it, I put the A/C on, and after having it on for 10 minutes, and turned down to 60 degrees, it was still coming out about the same as the vent air w/out even having the A/C on, and it was about 78 degree weather, so I knew somethung was wrong.
The dealer was already closed that day by the time I noticed it, so the next day I brought it back, and they "fixed" it while i waited, and said that they couldn't find any leaks, and that it looked to them like the dreon was simply never put in the system from the facory(yeah, right).
So they charged it up, and it was nice and cold, until the following day when I turned on the A/C again, and WHAMMO, it's back to luke warm air again coming out. So the following day I brought it back again, and the dealer said that I should leave it there for a day, and they gave me a loaner car. When I picked the car up the next day, the told me that they had to replace the A/C hose because the crimp on the end of it was defective, and was causing a slow leak.
Since then, it's been fine, but it took them having the car twice to diagnose the problem correctly.

Looks like the compressor is working ok because the a/c is cooling. Just not anything as much as I would expect. I'll be bringing it to the dealor for its 3K oil change and I will have them check it out.
