Does anyone know if the rear shocks from a pre-03 (2002 for example) will fit on the 2003+?

I know the fronts are completely different, but the rears should be really close. They moved them outboard but the minimum/maximum lengths are almost identical. The top and bottom mounts look the same, but I am not positive that they will work.

I would also like to know if they would fit.

"Almost" might make a difference. May want to call a local FLAPS or Ford dealership parts dept and ask them for specifics.

Just curious, why not just go with 2003+ parts?

curiosity mostly. there are also a lot more choices for the 2002s. specifically I usually run bilstein on anything I can. if the 2002 bilstein rears fit I would like to use them.

Had a rear set of HD Bilsteins on my 1999 Grand Marquie loved them. The best control & ride I ever had of any combination.

The lengths of the 2002 will work. I am only worried about mounting differences. I planning to go to advanced auto at lunch to pick up one of their cheapest models. I will take some measurements and return it. I believe it will work, and I thought that somebody had already used and old model town car shock to get the a particular feel of squishy ride that they were after. I will keep you posted.

If the 2002 would work they would be listed as fitting 2003+. They aren't. Changing the mounting angle also changes the mechanical advantage on the shock so the rate will be incorrect (too stiff).

I say they won't work.
