My passenger side rear seal went on me, so I bought a new axle , seals and bearings. So after putting the car on jack stands I crawled underneath and I found yet another leak ... im guessing a pinion seal.? How do I go about replacing it ? Do I need any special tools? Do I have to remove the driveshaft?

If you have bearing debris in the oil, a proper repair includes a complete disassembly and pressure wash of the housing. Includes driveshaft removal. Many upgrade options are recommended to eliminate future problems.

I went through the pinion seal leak problem 2 years ago - get ready for a complete overhaul. The reason the pinion seal is leaking is because the bearing is on it's way out.
You will need special tools as well as a very thorough cleaning as stated above.
Highly recommend having someone who is familiar w/rebuilding rears assist or do it for you.

From what I can see in the picture it doesn't look that bad, if it was my car I'd leave it alone and keep an eye on it to see if it gets worse. Replacing just the seal providing there is no bearing damage is not a problem, but if not done properly you will end up with gear whine. It's not a job I would recommend for the novice.

Ok thanks. With this pinion gear how will I know if it gets worse, a major leak? When my cars in park and I put it in reverse or drive I can hear a clicking sounds from the rear. Is that from the pinion gear or axle? I just assumed it was my axle. So I ordered one and then the next day the seal started leaking (right side).

What goes thru my mind is how flat you would be if you did any wrenching on that car while on those two stands !!

You should clean it out and rebuild the entire axle assembly. This design does not have a particularly long lifespan. Ring and pinion last OK, though.
