MAV2
At least that is what the tag on my "A" pillar shows.
Built 2/4/4.

MAV2 is '04 specific. Won't load on an '03 PCM. Ask me how I know. ;)

Okay, how do you know?

My first thought would be dual knock sensors, after that, maybe some tranny stuff. Also, I think the pin outs are different on the EEC. Just a quess though...

I think the pinouts are the same between EECs but I cannot confirm with 100% certainty. Reason being that my tech pre-wired the second knock sensor wiring such that it was just a matter of pinning it into the PCM plug, once we established that the '03 PCM could handle this input (unused on the '03s). However, the s/w loaders that Ford uses verify the hardware version of the PCM before allowing a download... probably to verify firmware and such.
It's unfortunate that the PCMs seem to be different. While it could theoretically be a simple case of Ford covering their rears in case someone tried to load something across model years (and possibly infringing on some certification issues... ie. an '04 car mistakenly released from a dealer with '03 calibrations), there's the chance that the '04 PCM has hardware to drive 2 knock sensors whereas the '03 unit only handles 1 sensor.
So, in my case, if I wanted to make use of the second knock sensor I had installed, I'd have to swap for an '04 PCM. Right now I have bigger fi$h to fry, so that's on the backburner until I scrape up the spare cash.
I wonder if the '03 Mach I also has a single KS or if it has a dual setup.

Agreed, the pinouts are not different, but not populated either. Any chance the '03 EEC can be reprogrammed to recognize the second sensor? Good question on the Mach 1...Anyone?
