The discount was $1.03 more than the shipping, so I saved $1.03 more than if they were just doing a free shipping promotion. Whoo-hoo ! :cheer:

If you are into doing all your own detailing and car care, that is the site to get the best stuff out on the market. Lots of support from the company and a whole forum wealth of great information.

I picked up a Porter Cable XP7424 HP dual action polisher kit, extra pads, swirl remover, carnauba finishing glaze, paint sealant, paste wax, mits, towels, foamaster foam gun and a few other things.

Got two black cars I want to remove swirls from and give the black some more depth again.

Thanks for posting that - that's the best sale I've ever heard of them having. Usually the sale discount doesn't apply to a lot of the stuff on there.

They sent me an email about it, first thing I looked at was a polisher kit, told myself if the sale works on it then I was going to buy it. I was extremely surprised that it was on everything which I haven't seen a sale like this in 3-4 years.

I saw an ad on TV on Velocity for AutoGeek. That is a pretty cool website! I have an older Craftsmen buffer/polisher. IIRC, I wasn't able to remove the rubber backing plate. So, at one point, I stuck some Velcro on the bottom and had ONE pad left that would stick to Velcro. But, I did not like using it that way so I haven't used it in a while.

It is like this (but probably 12 years old in like new condition):
https://www.google.com/shopping/product/42452786777449242?q=craftsman+ buffer&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.52109249,d.aWM,pv.xjs.s .en_US.8f7UbUMizFk.O&biw=1366&bih=674&dpr=1&tch=1&ech=1&psi=A8sxUurSLIOYrAGCkYHADA.137 8994949819.7&sa=X&ei=JMsxUt6YApKgqwG324GQAg&ved=0CIEBEPMCMAY4FA

How do these new pads attach to the rubber plate on the buffer with this "hook and loop" concept?

The Porter Cable XP7424 DA polisher I picked up uses hook and loop backing plates for the pads to attach to.

I picked up this kit and upgraded the polisher to the HD model.

That is sweet! I remember a while back some of the people I knew in detailing would just swap out an old pad for a new one by taking it off with a Velcro attachment. That was easy. Rip off and stick a new one on. I can't figure out the Hook and Loop deal.:o Plus, I don't even know if they have the Velcro stuff anymore...

Aren't hook-and-loop and velcro basically the same thing in this context? I know that for a while 3M used a weird proprietary setup but I haven't seen that for ages.

The pads and backing plates for PCs/Griot's/HD/Harbor Freight/Cyclo/etc. are available in various sizes and 5.5" generally work more effectively (or at least more efficiently) than the larger ones. And the little 3-4" ones can really ramp up the aggressiveness (besides being great for spot-correction).

Instead of using the orange/yellow foam cutting pads for aggressive work, try the Meguiar's microfiber Cutting Disks. Better correction and they leave a much nicer finish. Far easier to clean too, especially if you use compressed air.

On the PCXP models, be a *little* careful about applying a lot of pressure. IF the hollow shaft that accepts the backing plate's stud breaks, it can do some serious damage (happened to a pal of mine); IMO that's the one major potential flaw in the XP's design.
