I went on a trip this weekend and on the way back, we noticed a funny electrical burning smell then the blower fan stopped working. The AC system works fine, I figured the blower fan went out. But I was wrong, the fan is fine.

I had thought it might be a bad resistor but the fan does not work at all, in my experience the fan still works on high with a bad resistor.

I then thought of the EATC, but why would there be a funny electrical smell if the EATC went out?

I hot wired the fan to the battery to get us home from our 4 hour trip in 100°+ weather.

any ideas?

Thanks

Fastblackmerc repairs these.

Down side is being down sucks.

I believe new from ford ran me about 60 bucks, but eventually will fail again. Then again what doesn't :D

This is the unit located directly behind passenger side head under the heater core hoses?

That is correct. Tap on it with a screwdriver... if the fan works the BCM is bad.

BCM replaced, no joy. So it is not the BCM or fan...and that was a nightmare to get it, everything back there is sharp and tight for my big hands.

My old BCM does not smell or look burnt up. What else in the air ducts could have made a electrical burning smell before it quit working?

The only thing would be the fan.
