I'll make this as short as possible and still tell what's needed.
My wife is looking for a new DD for her long commute to work (35 miles each way..45 min all highway)since hers needs TOO much work and isn't worth it. We inherited an Expedition but it's a gas hog and better used in snow and family trips with LOTS of luggage and the dog.
It has to be under $6K since it HAS to stay outside since the garage is full (Will buy her a NICE one when we move next year some time). So, after some thinking and looking we decided that the "Panther platform" would be the best fit...even the Town Car!
We saw this ad:

GREAT!!! A Marauder would work and after we moved, either I'd keep it as a DD after I fixed it up or give to my son...Na, keep it for myself and supercharge it!!!
So after a few E-Mails and phone calls we met up last night to look at it. I wasn't too crazy about the location, in the parking lot of the SMALLEST Dunkin' Donuts I have EVER seen and an abandoned gas station...lovely. OK, I can deal with it. So after he (the owner) and his girl friend showed up, I did my usual look around the car to see what could be seen. The car had the paint problem in a BIG way on the roof, you could see where it lifted off and pitting in the metal, the hood and trunk weren't as bad but enough to need a repaint. The scratches he said would buff out...SOME would, but the rest...no (gouges...NOT scratches),and the car is COVERED in them. There's a "DENT" on the lower RT front door, gaps on the rear bumper look "off", the interior has seen better days, there's a switch in the gauge pack for the radio to watch it while the car is in drive, the LED display in the overhead console doesn't work, the heads have the tapping I heard about in the 03's, the rims have some major curb rash...the list goes on. But, for the right price, I'd be glad to take it and give it a GOOD home...it even PLEADED with me to take it with me!!!
Now the MAIN reason for me telling you all this other than giving other potential buyers some insight on the cars condition. It was THAT time. I asked to take it for a test drive.
Well, that's when the mood changed and something happened that I, nor my wife were prepared for or EVER even heard of. He said "show me some money". My wife and I looked at each other utterly clueless, I turned and asked what he meant. He said that he wanted to see the money for the car BEFORE we test drove it!! That's when my wife and I became VERY uncomfortable. I ask why, he said that he let someone test drive a car before and they smashed it up and for now on, whoever wants to test drive one of his vehicles, they have to show the money for the car FIRST. I told him that it would have been nice to have said that in one of the numerous conversations we had and that I, nor ANYONE I or my wife knows would EVER carry that much cash with them, it would be a bank check. Then, to make things even more uncomfortable and a tad bit suspicious, he said that he wont take a check, it HAS to be cash. After saying a few things that I can't even remember (still in shock/awe)That's when I gave my wife "the look" and we got In the truck and left!!!!
During the 40 minute trip back to our house, that's all we were talking about and how uncomfortable we felt and thoughts of being shot, stabbed and robbed.
Well, that's it. That was the MOST unpleasant car shopping experience that EITHER of us have EVER had!!! I and my wife felt that others should be made aware of this. Better to be informed than to get stuck in a potentially bad situation.
Anyone interested in the car wanting more info on the "untold story" just PM me, I and my wife would be glad to share it with you. Info on the car, what I and/or my wife can remember, just ask here and well be more than glad to answer what we can.
I just hope that that car ends up with a good home, it NEEDS it!!!
PS:
Still looking for a Panther for her DD if anyone around these parts( Within an hour) has one for $6K or less...less is better under the circumstances...Thanks.
