Ive seen plenty grenaded diffs before...mostly on gm products I used to work on for a living. Im curious about the control arm, is that common on these cars? Is that why they get upgraded a lot? I hope you make out well on the repair bigmerc !

WOW! What kind of RWHP are you putting down!
I can't believe the car actually drove like that.
There have been some rears on this site that looked a little like that.

Very common for the Trac loc to fail/break, which is why its not worth downgrading to one, eventually they fail.

My diff looked similar back in January... Mo's got me covered thank God.... My guess is the control arm broke first, resulting in some alignment issues that caused the carrier to grenade after the gears wore (due to the alignment). just my .02... Hope you get it figured out soon........

AMEN BRO!!! ... It seems there is an 8.8 cult on this site that likes to praise the damn Ford OEM Tracloc differential (with the terrible "S" spring). The whole 8.8 is a poor substitute for a 9". They also sing the praises of 28 spline axle shafts, even though Ford got a better idea and finally went with 31's.

I admit the Eaton Detroit Locker is really too noisy for our cars. It took me a year to get used to mine. The first time my neighbor heard me back into my driveway, he was sure I had a bad rear axle.

I should have gone with the Eaton Truetrac, but I can live with what I have.
