Not sure where else to put this. I'm doing some work on the interior of my car and pulled up the gear shift (in advance yes I know the gear shift has a green filter on it I am not trying to change the color of that) the little tab that shows which gear I'm in has been bleached out by something, maybe the incandescent I just took out, and is cramping my gear shift style! Does anyone know how I can replace this?? All this is is the small little colored tab that's attached to the plastic strip that slides as you move the car from park to drive, etc. I saw another member here had done it in the past but haven't gotten a response from him. As always, any help appreciated!

I don't know how to get a replacement, but I did use a red permanent marker to go over that tab in mine and it helped a ton.

Lol I didn't think of that! I'm trying to replace it while I have everything disassembled, but if no other options come up I'll be making a stop by CVS to grab a marker

I sanded the green filter away and used a white led. I also used a red sharpie marker to go over the gear indicator tab. I went over it 4 or 5 times, each time letting it dry to get a little bit deeper red.

Use an LED and a red sharpie.

Looks like I should use a red marker! Thanks guys, guess I thought people were replacing it with something, couldn't find anything in the search on it.

Just curious..you said gear shifting style? Tell me you are not manually shifting the auto trans.. Not good for it at all is the census around here.

No I just meant it looks bad. I put in an led so the whole gauge is lit up real well now, except currently whichever gear I'm in is a sickly yellow color, not for much longer! Thanks for clarifying though

Red RIT fabric dye, follow the directions but do not heat it too hot, let it lay in a warm solution for a half hour or so and the dye will soak into the plastic. Check it every 5 minutes until you are satisfied with the color.

Just FYI, They have Red Acrylic (sp?) PAINT SHARPIES at the art/paint store. ALL COLORS TOO. Thier Acrylic (sp?) RED would be perfect (like nail polish--has it's own gloss clear coat).
