Well i finally ordered my ford 4.30 gears. Most Ford/ mercury dealerships quoted me around $500-$600. Plus extra parts. I finally found a Mercury dealership that will do it for $375. plus parts. What are these extra parts? I know fluid and possibly a gasket is one of them, but some were saying about bearings, collars, and other parts. Do i need the other parts, or just the gears. Because i just want to drop off my car at the dealership with the gears and fluid, i want to know about extra parts that you guys may know of, especially you billygman!! Anyinfo would be great.

Frank, there are shims that have to be used. When they're using Ford racing gears like you've purchased to replace gears in a Ford rear end like the one in the Marauder, then very often the shims that are in there already can be used, and even should be used. But they won't know for sure until they open it up and take the measurements. Especially the backlash measurements when they do a mock-up assembly w/the new ring & pinion gears.

The pinion bearings should be replaced, and in some cases the differential carrier bearings need to be replaced also. But that's another thing that you won't know until itr gets opened up. However the shims and bearings are probably items that they already have in stock since they're common parts among all Ford 8.8" rear ends which Mustangs, Crown Vics, and Grand Marquis all have too.

What dealer is doing the work?

What dealer is doing the work?

Newman Lincoln Mercury
585 Connecticut Blvd.
East Hartford, CT 06108
Tel: (860) 289-5411
Fax: (860) 528-8649

They are the only dealership that would do the work at a decent price!!
Thanks for the info,

I forgot to mention, there's also the pinion crush collar, the pinion oil seal, and the pinion nut that have to be replaced whenever the gears are changed. But again, these are all common items atleast to the Ford 8.8" rear that probably are in-stock items at the dealer.

I hope that you specifically asked the service manager at that dealer if they will do this work withOUT voiding your warantee. because if the eanswer is "no", then you sould go to another dealer(Ford of branford would definately be one).

Typically the install parts/pieces are about $60 + fluids... $375 is fairly reasonable. I paid 320 for my install...
