Well I had this pull in Tuesday, beautiful Red Mach 1 with 200 miles on the clock.

Belongs to a real nice man here in Jacksonville Florida, and he wanted to know what I could do, so I said lets put it on the dyno and see what we are starting with and it made 267 RWHP, so then we brought it back to the shop put BBK LTH, H Pipe and Flow masters, installed our chip, strapped it down and ran it again.

It gained 30 RWHP and 15 foot pounds or torque, on exhaust, and chip all in all I was happy, after he gets some miles on it I will install a E trim and after cooler. After the toon I added the rear Louvar it sure looks good.

Wouldn't it be cool to have a vac*** opperated cowl induction hood like the old Camaros had? :D

Dennis, do you remember the peak torque value & what rpm it was at?

That car is spiff! Do the Mach1's have the DOHC mod motor like us?
If so, I wanna put a shaker on my MM!!!!!!!
That shaker kicks!
Johnny
It is a 4.6L DOHC 32V V8
HP: 305@5800
TQ (LBS-FT) 320@4750
pretty much the same

I suppose the extra ponies are coming from the air induction system?

If memory serves, and I'm gettin' old, the '96 Cobra had a 305 hp rating when it came out! From there it pretty much stayed there until the '99 model year when it was boosted to 320. Of course with the '03 model, it really took a jump with the forced induction.
The 99 Cobra (and subsequent 2001 and 2002 models) had the hard to make 320hp engines. After the controversy over the 99 car not making the full 320hp, Ford bit a large bullet in costs for lawsuits and re-engineering efforts to make up the difference in claimed vehicles and new ones to come out still in the pipeline. It seems that this effort may not have been profitable enough interms of efficiency so the 03 version, albeit appropriately re-badged) is making a more comfortable 305hp.
Indeed the original 96-98 Cobra had 305hp, however a significant difference between those models and the Mach1 version is 20 more lbs-ft of TQ (300@4800 for the old and 320@4750 for the new).
I always liked V8s that made more TQ than HP numerically anyway and shows that the 03 version is much healthier right out of the box. The 03 will likely respond better to mods aswell.
The RAM AIR effect would only likely transpire at higher vehicle speeds which would contribute to a RAM AIR effect. The only exception is that if the Mustangs 4V Mod motor's air induction system was so poor in the first place that opening up the air coming in would make a difference even at 0 mph.
The Camaros and Firebirds with Ram Air hoods did feel better because the stock air inlet systems were so poor, however the mark was quantumed ONLY when vehicle speeds picked up and a RAM AIR effect could take place.

I would have to say the slightly higher HP probably comes from the difference in exhaust from the stang vs. the Marauder.
perhaps the camshafts are a tad different for the weight of the Marauder. You may not see it in the mumbers but the TQ curves may look substantially different (hopefully flatter).
But then again I haven't seen the HP and TQ curves for both vehicles side by side so I am just assuming that Ford would think of doing this.

If the Mach 1 is a stick that would account for the difference in HP.
Also the hood scoop would help.
It is also possible that Ford is using the 320 hp version and calling it 305 hp. just in case it falls short on the dyno.
Looky here, this is my 100th post!!!
Yay for me!!
I thought all Mustangs came with an "H" pipe already?

They do, except V6's I believe...
B4z is right about the stick having more hp. The Mach1 is available with the auto aswell. With that in mind I will discuss the fact that all cars with the same engine will have more power with the manual version as was the case with the Camaros and Firebirds (particularly the LT1 cars). GM made the auto an option therefore the 275hp rating was for the manual only.
B4z may also be right about the 320hp motor being in the Mach1 afterall. Ford may be indeed playing it safe because now that there is an auto option, the hp/tq certainly would be less in the auto. In this case, the numbers would be perfect for the auto and Mach1 owners will have nothing to complain about after a visit on the dyno.
Funny how nobody that owned Camaros and Firebirds loudly complained of the differences. Perhaps it was because the autos has much lower 1st gear planetaries to compensate for the loss from the transmission hence the 1/4 and 0-60 times were the same for both manual and auto cars.
Interestingly, the SHO Taurus with the automatic had to have a larger displacement (as opposed the typical camashaft profile alterations) to cope with the auto. The NSX Acura advertised a truthfull 252hp for the auto while the manual made 270hp originally (now 290hp).

the above Camaro comparison was for the 1994-1995 model years.

After the recall work was complete on my 99 Cobra, I got 273 rwhp and about 272 rw ft lb. With 15% driveline loss, it works out to about 320 hp. The 01 Cobras seemed to have a bit more torque.
I have heard MM and Mach engines are the same including cams. I think someone mentioned they're from a Navigator. I think the difference is exhaust and programming IMO.

We are going to see allot of " hi-preformance " cars coming from al manafactures. Seems that they have finally figured out that we Americans like our hpref. cars as well as any Germen loves his Porsche/Mercades.
Sure am glad that I own the first of the true " modern day street racers "....makes it even more valuable a few years from now.............
