Hello fellow merc bros-

I'm new to the forum so forgive me for my ignorance to certain questions I might ask. I'm having an issue with the driver side rear end. In July I was leaking fluid from the center of the driver side rear wheel and I experienced a clicking and clanking noise from The area. I also noticed that when I jacked the rear up the tire had some play in it. So I replaced the bearing and seal but it only fixed the problem for awhile till I noticed that it started leaking fluid again. Can someone help me with this. I think it might be the driver rear axle. If anyone one can share some light on this issue that would b awesome....... Also please share advice on parts and location. I'm n chicago.

Ps I hope all u guys hit the lottery :-) good luck

Usually when the bearing and seal are bad, and you can hear noises, then the axle is toast as well. Was there a groove in the axle shaft enough that you can catch it with a fingernail?

and while you are in there, consider adding 31 spline axles to replace the factory 28 spline. Modding has to begin somewhere.

Sounds like your axle is bad

If you have a 03 300a they were known for having weak axles the heat treatment was wrong so they were softer than they sould have been.

Fellow DTR owner boyeeeeee!

You might as well have a set if 4.10 gears installed too while its all being replaced.

Wondering if you had seen the web links for parts that I texted to you a few days ago bubs.

Sent from The White House on taxpayers dimes.

DTR + 4.10's + Eaton swap = Wreeeeeeeeeeeeeeedom

By the time you can hear it. The bearing and axle are both usually done. Especially if you keep driving it trying to figure out what the noise is.

If the axle does turn out to be OK. You need to scotch bright and clean up the end because if the new seal doesn't fit EXACTLY on the same spot the other one did the dirty axle will rub/wear through the seal and it will leak again. Same thing that happens when changing gears if using used gears. Its common the pinion seal starts leaking.

Did you strip the housing and power wash it before replacing the seal & bearing? Did you find tiny little pieces of metal in the drain oll?
