Looking to upgrade the brakes on Phoebe. What calipers are recommended if needed? Too many choices...
Not looking at BBKs at this time, just something better than stock.

I am running the stock sized components with NAPA's Adaptive One pads and their Reactive One rotors...the feel is still the same (I need the braided lines) but the stopping power is an improvement over the stock ones. For the $$$ I feel they are worth it.

I have the Baer kit on my 2004, front and rear. Slotted and cross drilled with their corvette calipers.
Now I can actually make a panic stop. Before I panicked, but the car didn't stop. Now the car stops, but I still panic.

There are no upgrade calipers that I know of for stock rotors and pads. I used AutoZone's Duralast calipers when I had to replace mine and they feel exactly the same as the OEM.

I was curious if anyone had any experience with something like the Raybestos police stuff (http://www.raybestosbrakes.com/magnoliaPublic/home/products/advanced-technology-police-patrol-products.html)...

They look interesting. If I hadn't just done all four I would give these a try - I will for the next change!

if you want an upgrade go big or go home It's not so much an upgrade as she needs new brakes anyway and I just want put on something a little better than stock. $1500 for a BBK is not in the picture.

I just cleaned up the old ones real good and gave the slide pins or what ever they are called a good lubing and the OEMs work great.
Now the squeaking Hawk pads are another thing. This Winter will be switch time for them. Perhaps and EBC

Stock rebuilds. If stock is all that is in the budget, we can't point you to a miracle cure at stock prices.
I suggest you replace the much-overlooked caliper pins and run OEM semi-metallic pads.

maybe that's because you never bled them and they get no use.

I've got cyro slots by ebc and ebc pads... Faded like a mofo from a 100mph
Big brake or go home!
maybe that's because you never bled them and they get no use. :laugh:Possible! I had my 04 backed onto ramps this summer. Started it up, foot on brake, put it in gear, shot the ramps 5-10 foot out of the garage as the rear hit the ground with a thud. No damage, but surprised the hell out of me! Car never moved.

I bet the calipers are standard OEM with high temp. seals? Do they look like OEM castings?

Of course they are OEM. Nothing special about per-soot brakes, except maybe a bit more semi-metallic. When you're stock, buy quality heat-treated rotors (command automotive is good) no slots no holes' run OEM semi-met or maybe Porterfield R4S if you can stand a bit of squeal occasionally, and replace the caliper pins or the whole caliper. And then there are SS lines. By now you're halfway to the price of a BBK . . .
