I was washing up the car earlier this week and noticed a fine hairline crack in one of my wheels about 3-4 inches long, located between spokes about 1 inch from the bead edge. Dealer replaced the wheel under warranty. Keep an eye out! Anyone else have a problem like this?

so it was a radial crack? cracked in the same direction as tire rotation?

Yes, but slightly on an angle. No loss of air pressure, and didn't want to wait until it failed, if it even would. Unfortunately, no way to tell how deep it was just by looking.

Good catch Sac!

That could have caused a major accident.

They sure it was a crack and not a fine scratch?
Such a crack would be more common to a cast wheel

It was definitely a crack. No doubt about it. You could not feel it at all, but you could sure see it, especially under the right lilght. In fact, I've cleaned that wheel probably a dozen times and never saw it, but one day it was in the perfect sunlight and bam, there it was. I even took a magnifier to it and you could see it was a crack. All the service guys that looked at it thought the same. Very strange but all taken care.

No memory of hitting anything out of the ordinary. Most important thing for everyone is to keep an eye out. It was difficult to see it unless the lighting was good. Probably a rare occurence, but worth an ounce of prevention to watch for it. If it failed it could have been ugly.
